Strategy Vs. Tactics ….. Did Trump Just Commit Political Suicide? Or, Did He Strike Right?

image

Well, what I say, is this is The Donald.  This is what you get when you have Trump.

For what it’s worth, I give him an A+ in the strategy.  I give him an F- in the tactics, or, prosecution of the strategy.

Look, it’s politics.  Trump is running as the anti-establishment Repub.  But, he’s not the only one.  And, recently a couple of other anti-establishment Repubs have made headway against Trump’s considerable lead.  So, one should move to cut the legs out from under the upstarts, right?  Yes, if one wants to win, this is what one should do ….. go after the wannabe rivals before they can be legit rivals.

So, here’s what happened ….

Businesswoman Carly Fiorina, who also gained ground on Trump in CNN’s poll out today, got a dose too.

In an interview with Rolling Stone Trump mocked Fiorina’s appearance: “‘Look at that face!’ he cries. ‘Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?!’ The laughter grows halting and faint behind him. ‘I mean, she’s a woman, and I’m not s’posedta say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?’”
Fiorina declined to respond in kind during an interview on “The Kelly File” saying instead, “I’m not going to spend a single cycle wondering what Donald Trump means. But maybe just maybe I’m getting under his skin a little bit because I’m climbing in the polls.”

Ooooofff!!!

This is an abject failure, in my view.  I’ll state this once, again.  I’ll not vote for Fiorina.  Her history as a failure in business and the American worker is all I need to see.  She believed good tech could be produced by more masses rather than more thought.  She ditched American tech workers in favor for many more cheap workers in a foreign land, all the while enjoying the protections the American workers provided.  She nearly bankrupted HP and relegated HP to being a second tier computer and printer maker while they used to be near the top of the line.  Now, they’re going to spin off their PC business.  She’s had quotes galore which can, and will be, exploited.

Fiorina has been climbing in the polls.  The Donald’s response is to call her ugly?  What???????  ……. ????????  What?  That’s too stupid for me to fathom!  You know what, Donnie boy!  Women hate that guys call other women ugly!  (Unless they’re with the man calling another woman ugly.)   What?  You can’t attack her on the substance of her advocacy or the history of her performance?  Her history is made for your attack!!!!  Instead you call her ugly?  Are you serious?  You can’t possibly be serious!  Are you stupid?

Does “The Donald” not know that many conservative Repubs still believe in the traditional nuclear family?  That is to say, there’s a woman taking care of the kids, and a man working.  The woman will find extra time to actively work for the potential nominee of their choice.  More women vote in elections than men, in the US.  “The Donald’s” rebut to Fiorina is that she’s ugly.  ……  For a lady of age, she actually has a good figure, and isn’t all that homely.  Compared to “The Donald’s Toupee” …… Glass houses? …..

And, then, there’s this from Ben Carson ….

Pressed by reporters during a campaign stop in Anaheim, Calif., to respond to Trump’s criticisms that Carson isn’t qualified to be president, the retired neurosurgeon initially declined.
But when asked to contrast himself with the New York billionaire, Carson responded, “…I realize where my success has come from, and I don’t any way deny my faith in God,” said Carson. Carson went on to cite favorite scriptures that “humility and fear of the Lord are riches in honor and life,” saying that he didn’t get “that impression with” Trump.

Now, mind you, that in itself is a jump.  I’m not sure I would have gone there.  But, it’s true.

Some may ask, “where did that come from?”  It came from here.

….. Frank Luntz asked whether Trump had ever asked God for forgiveness. “I am not sure I have,” Trump said. “I just go on and try to do a better job from there. I don’t think so. I think if I do something wrong, I think, I just try and make it right. I don’t bring God into that picture. I don’t.”

Trump has responded to Carson ….

On CNN today, Trump unloaded on Carson:
“Look at his faith and you’re not going to find so much. And you look at his views on abortion which were horrendous, and that’s I think why I’m leading with all the evangelicals. I’m leading Ben Carson by a lot I’m almost double his numbers.”
“But I don’t know Ben Carson, perhaps – you know – an okay doctor…we’re not talking about a great – he was an okay doctor.”
“And now, because he’s a doctor and he hired one nurse, he’s going to end up being president of the United States?”
“For him to read from the Bible in his memory, it looked like it memorized it about two minutes before he went on stage.”

Trump and Jindal have exchanged barbs, as well.  But, that exchange, in my estimation, is just politics.  But, the two exchanges above go beyond politics.  That’s the thing about politics, and other schools of thought.  They intertwine.

Someone should have told Trump this is a long distance race, and not a sprint. He’s lowered his ceiling, again.  It’s too low, he’ll never be elected president of the US.  To be sure, there are only about 30% of the US population who are diehard Repubs.  1/2 of them are female.  About 1/2 of them are born again Christians.  There is a large crossover between the two.

A woman is not invalidated because you believe they’re ugly.

As to the Christian faith, I’m not a Presbyterian.  I’m not familiar with their doctrine.  But, I do know the doctrines of many other Protestant faiths.

My faith is, you cannot be, and are not saved (a Christian) unless, and until, you’ve asked for forgiveness from God for your sins.  If one can’t do that, then, they are putting themselves on equal footing as God, Almighty.  I’ve had enough of that, already.

I would ask that the people who read this pray for Donald Trump, first.  And, then, support a Christian.

  1. Latitude says:

and Trump’s numbers jumped up again….

I’m telling you, no one wants a wuss for president

but it was perfectly ok for Obama to insult everyone..and he won doing it

    • Latitude says:

and after almost a decade of watching Obama and the rest of the democrats hurling insults….and the republicans apologizing for them

We’re all sick and tired of republicans running around with their tails between their legs, laying on their backs, and peeing on themselves

We just might get a republican president that will slap them down….finally

      • squid2112 says:

Again, I agree with you Latitude. I mean seriously? .. people are having an issue with a “maybe” insult? .. seriously? .. Come on James .. have you not been paying attention this past decade or so? .. There are more pressing issues that I might take to account with Trump, but this is a non starter for me.

My wife and I were talking last night about what Trump meant by his comments towards Fiorina. And if you have paid any attention to Trump and have begun to sort of understand his mindset, then you are left to realize that he was not calling her “ugly” .. We was looking from a perspective that I described to my wife (and she agreed). Imagine Fiorina in conference with Putin negotiating arms treaties. Really? .. can you imagine that? .. I cannot imagine Fiorina in that position and doing a good job for America at all. Or how about trade negotiations with China? .. Or how about nuclear negotiations with Iran? … I think this is what Trump was really intending, and for which I would have to agree with him. By the same token, although I like him, I cannot imagine Ben Carson in those situations either. I can however imagine Trump in those situations and knocking the hell out of our adversaries and getting America a very good deal.

There are a couple of other issues that I would take up with Trump that I believe are infinitely more important than this stupid shit. His initial position on Syrian refugees for example. Now I know he has since changed his position, but I was not comfortable with his first response. I am also not comfortable with his continued financial support for Planned Parenthood, even if they do stop performing abortions (which they most certainly will not anyway), but he should be of the mind that the government should not be funding any of these organizations at all. It is not the role of the government to be doing so, for any kind of organization. Government needs to be take out of any such roles, across the board.

Did Trump call Fiorina “ugly”? … I don’t give a rats ass … Did Trump imply Carson was not “so christian”? … I don’t give a rats ass … although, I didn’t really care for the “he was an ok doctor” comment, as I view Dr. Carson as being an absolutely astounding and accomplished doctor, one of the best our country has ever seen. But again, to his comment about Carson, I don’t give a rats ass. Fix the country! .. everything else is just folly and I couldn’t care less about it.

And by the way, with no theological offense intended, I am not voting for a “christian” president, I am voting for a president that will get the fucking job done, and done right. I don’t give a rats ass if they are christian or not (won’t tolerate a muslim though). Their faith is of absolutely no consequence to me (again, with exception to Islam).

Here is a really good video (I think it is awesome), that goes a long way to describing why the American people are backing Trump, and how Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan is resonating with people across the board. I very much encourage you all to view this short video (commercial length).

          https://video-ord1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hvideo-xpt1/v/t42.1790-2/10812450_340303416150254_1624031924_n.mp4?efg=eyJybHIiOjMwMCwicmxhIjo2MzJ9&rl=300&vabr=163&oh=48c7223dfb6807bd6b183ab28562ef11&oe=55F1CCC9

        • cdquarles says:

I have to agree with squid here. I don’t particularly like Mr. Trump; but what I do know is that ‘The Donald’ does now how to negotiate and how to be a CEO. What I don’t know and what concerns me about him is the demonstrated acceptance of Northeastern ‘liberal’ premises, pace the tax policy. I am *so* tired of voting for the lesser of two evils; but if it does come down to Trump vs. any Democrat, Mr. Trump gets my vote.

        • Latitude says:

100% agree with both of you…

          Ask yourself just one question…

Who do you want as CEO of your company?

…because that’s what it really boils down to

Here’s the top ones so far and what I think of them…

Cruz – religious, he’s going to have to answer to them….and a major turnoff to too many people
Fiorina – a disaster, not my CEO
          Rubio – a kid
Cason – black, I’m sorry it’s a fact…and he’s never going to be black enough, will cause even more problems

Trump – big mouth, bully, gets the job done, doesn’t back off and whine, doesn’t apologize, calls people on it to their face, and damnit can actually make a decision…my CEO

        • Jim Masterson says:

If it comes down to Trump or Hillary, then Trump gets my vote. But I’m not sure I’m voting for the lesser of two evils.

          Jim

        • Latitude says:

Jim, that’s not really your choice…

          It’s either Trump or Bush

        • Latitude says:

I left bush out of my list….I don’t consider him in the running any more

Bush – weak, whiny, low energy would be an overstatement, political class, backstabbing RINO

        • Jim Masterson says:

          >>
          It’s either Trump or Bush
          <<

Huh? Two Republicans and no Democrat or will one of them switch parties?

          Jim

        • leftinflagstaff says:

Lat—again, it’s what kind of ‘bully’. We’ve got one now. He’s bullied his view of what’s best for us upon us. Obamacare. Socialist policies proven to fail. Insane CAGW delusions. The list is endless.
The only bullying we should tolerate is one who stomps on anyone trying to subject us to their control. If Trump can be that bully, and not just another one bullying their agenda on us, then fine.

        • Latitude says:

Jim you know what I meant.

left, we’ve got to get rid of the democrats and republicans. This is the same GOP, with the same formula, that brought us Bush, McCain, Romney…and their same formula that’s trying to bring us Bush again.
We’ve tried the career politician, the rancher, the community organizer..not a one of them had ever even run a hot dog stand..I want someone that can at least balance a check book.

Having someone that can bitch slap Pelosi, Reid, Schumer, Boxer, Sharpton, Jackson, the IRS…and McCain, Graham, and Boehner..is just a plus..and that’s what I meant by bully

        • leftinflagstaff says:

Yes, that’s the bully we need. The concern is, that type of person is also used to getting his way. A US president must remember its always about our way.

        • Latitude says:

          What are you thinking???

The only two that stand a chance in hell is Trump and Cruz….Cruz will not win
The rest of them are different dog, same collar

and what’s the big deal?? Bush got his way, Clinton got his way except for the one time Newt stood up to him….Obama is running all over us by getting his way

So what if he gets his way?….our entire party is so weak it’s the democrats that are getting their way about everything! You either elect someone that gets their way….or just hand it all over to the democats again

        • leftinflagstaff says:

The big deal is whether his way is close enough to the right way. Or we again end up with no difference from the three previous presidents you mentioned.

        • Latitude says:

left, you’re sounding just like the republican “formula” that has lost every election for us.
..and exactly what I have said before
Come every election, republicans get all high and mighty on the republican purist..no repubican is good enough
Democrats nominate someone that will win.
          ..and we keep losing

If Trump isn’t good enough..who do you think? It has to be someone that can actually win it.

        • leftinflagstaff says:

          Missing my point

        • leftinflagstaff says:

We’re all sick of what we’ve had the past couple decades. Trumps way is refreshing. But if it gets him in, we don’t want it to end up as Obamas 3rd term. Or Clintons 8th.

        • leftinflagstaff says:

Point is— what I’m more sick of is having presidents who won’t do what they’re supposed to do: leave us alone.

        • leftinflagstaff says:

And again, can a bully leave us alone?

        • Me says:

Jim it’s the same here, with Harper Vs the others, Trudeau the man child and Mulcair the next commingof the religious union rep or that lizzy may. Not much of a difference than your Repubs and Demons.

        • Me says:

And right now, it wouldn’t surprise me if Mulcair got to be the next PM, because them Union people are just like them religious people.

        • Latitude says:

“And again, can a bully leave us alone?”

He can’t govern alone….he will pick from republican candidates

          ..and you’re missing my point
Trump is the only one that can win…if he doesn’t you’re going to have a worse bully that definitely won’t leave you alone

        • leftinflagstaff says:

Could be. Could also be that he forces more of himself on us than Hillary could manage to. He is kind of an Alpha- type. Hopefully not. Maybe he’ll understand which kind of bully to be.

        • Latitude says:

We’re not going to survive another 4-8 years of democrats…
…if we do, it won’t be anything we recognize

    • suyts says:

Guys, I don’t think you’re quite getting the point to these posts. I understand Trump’s appeal, and I like, for the most part, the way he goes about backhanding the media and establishment. And, I understand why he’s going after Carson and Fiorina. They’re anti-establishment making gains on Trump.

But, every time he does something like this, he lowers his peak potential. There are some people he’s simply lost because he can’t rein in his tongue. In this particular instance, he’s lost some women Repubs. They’ll simply never again consider voting for the man. He’s also probably lost some moral conservatives. As it is, right now, against a generic opponent in the general, I don’t see him getting 50% of the vote. Fortunately, the Dims don’t have a generic to run.

What you’re seeing are short term gains at long term expense. The election isn’t a sprint.

      • Latitude says:

but it’s the Donald….his rating went up from 20% to 33% among women…..after his Carly remark

“”For any other presidential candidate, making off-color — and arguably sexist — comments about a female competitor would likely result in an insurmountable problem with women voters.

Not so for Donald Trump. At least not yet.

A new CNN/ORC poll shows that Trump has increased his lead among Republican women, boosting his share to 33% of women voters, up from 20% a month ago.””

      • leftinflagstaff says:

Not so sure that the old rules are still in play. May be a drastic turn is needed to counter the last drastic turn.

        • Latitude says:

It is sorta the old rules….only a completely different player

Obama attacked all of his opponents, insulted and attacked everyone that he knew would not vote for him, would say one thing to one group, and the total opposite to another group, was not specific about how he would do anything, talked a good game, was upbeat and positive, fired people up…fainting….and packed every rally he had to overflowing…

          ….he won

Same exact game..same exact result….new player

        • leftinflagstaff says:

He also had skin color on his side.

        • Latitude says:

but it was the act that won it for him…if not, he would not have been black enough

        • leftinflagstaff says:

I think they reinforced each other, the act and the color.

        • Latitude says:

        • DirkH says:

Western Media always focuses on crazy people , never on people with sound arguments, because the latter are dangerous and if mentioned at all must be slandered violently. Here in Germany the party with the sound arguments is the AfD after they have kicked out their conformist boss Lucke after his attempted coup. New boss is Frauke Petry. She is intelligent so she gets disinvited from state media talk shows.

        • cdquarles says:

You’re forgetting gluconeogenesis, Dirk, and that fructose does not need insulin to be absorbed by most human cell types.

Anyway there are several subtypes of Type 2 Diabetes. Most common forms are related to insulin resistance, mainly meaning the receptor has been down-regulated, not insufficient insulin production, though that can occur after years of pancreatic overstimulation to compensate.

        • leftinflagstaff says:

But I don’t think gluconeogenesis can match a big plate of spaghetti, a few dinner rolls, and a slice of pie for dessert. I think that’s Dirk’s point. I know for me it can’t. 🙂

        • cdquarles says:

I think you’re not understanding how strongly insulin controls gluconeogenesis nor how much glucose can be made from body proteins or absorbed amino acids when insulin’s regulation of that enzyme chain doesn’t work.

        • cdquarles says:

Oh, not only insulin itself, but there is a family of similar peptide hormones and auto-regulatory secreted signaling mediators, of which the best known ones are the somatomedins that also play a role in this.
