September 10 Scripture Selection: Proverbs 21
Food for Thought: Prov. 21:22
There is certainly nothing passive about living a victorious life in Christ! When we put on Christ (the Anointed One (Rom. 13:14)), we receive His power and divine nature, as well as all the weapons and armor, in order to push back the enemy and recover territory that he tries to control. Christians who do not take advantage of the resources availed to them lead a life far below their potential. However, thankfully, the Lord has shown us in His Word what to do so that we no longer live harassed by the devil and his cohorts.
In response to those who accused Jesus of casting out demons by the power of Satan, a statement which He called a blasphemous, Jesus said, “No one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. And then he will plunder his house (Mark 3:27).” The apostle Paul lets all believers know that we can all, not just the “spiritual elite,” do that, in II Corinthians 10:3-4 where he says, “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.”
In facing the strongman and pulling down strongholds, there is no need for fear at all. Ephesians 6:10-18 tells us we are strong in the Lord and in His power, completely equipped to stand against the wiles of the devil, the principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness, and spiritual hosts of wickedness in heavenly places. All that we need to do is put on all the equipment provided us, pray, watch with all perseverance and supplication, and stand.
Jesus told His followers in Luke 10:19, “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” Now, as we are covered by the blood of Jesus, our identity is in Him, and we have the strongest weapon against the enemy of all: His name. We also have the assurance from the Word of God that if we resist the devil, he will flee.
As His Body here on earth, the Lord expects us to represent Him and not back down from the fight which He really has already won for us. Greater is He Who is in us than he who is in the world (I John 4:4). It’s just a matter of using what the Lord has given us.
