So Which Is Most Indicative Of Civilization Decline? US And England’s Absurdities ….. Two Examples Of Ruination

Now, don’t get me wrong, these things aren’t unique to only the US or only England.  But, they are examples of things I believe mark the decline of our civilization.  I just can’t decide which one is more indicative ……

Kim shows us this today …….

Pennsylvania Bird Feeder Ban Shocked Residents

….. One senior citizen couple was recently shocked when a zoning board inspector showed up on their property and informed them they were subject to a $1,000-per-day fine for feeding wild birds in their own yard.

That’s what Bill and Diane Ganssle accidentally discovered. The couple was recently informed that their bird feeder did not meet code.

Like many stories, there’s more to it, including a jackass neighbor and someone’s massive stupidity in believing bird feeders attract deer.  But, understand what a group of people in the local government did for this to happen.  They busied and occupied themselves with the grave question of the best way to build a bird feeder and then believed their notion was best mandated to the rest of the community.  And, then, the local government concurred and thought it best that there be a building code for the construction of a bird feeder.

And, apparently, the local citizenry didn’t see all to much wrong with this.  They did, after all elect that group of pinheads and didn’t act to reverse their stupidity.  Apparently, they were passive in the notion that a local government could and should dictate to private property owners exactly how they wanted them put erect their bird feeders.  There’s so much wrong with this it’s difficult to cover all of the bases as to why it’s wrong.

But, then across the pond, Dirk shows us this…..

‘NO WINNERS’ RULE SPARKING A MINI-REVOLUTION

….. England’s next generation of budding rugby internationals have been told that their competitions must have no winners and that if they are losing a match, the teams will have to be changed.

While England prepare at their usual base in Surrey, the county finds itself on the frontline of a philosophical battle about competitive matches in junior or “mini” rugby.

The Rugby Football Union (RFU) in conjunction with Surrey Rugby last week issued a new set of rules for tournaments for all age groups under-11 that left many parents and coaches initially thinking they were the victims of a spoof.

The key components are that tournaments will no longer have a winner, they will be round-robin only. Coaches must meet before each match to try to pick evenly matched teams and if any matches are proving too “one-sided” then coaches will be forced to “adjust” their teams at halftime to make them closer. Teams will no longer be streamed on ability but will play all matches with mixed ability groups.

What, exactly, is the goal here?  That competitive sports not be competitive?  Say that a few times in your mind!

Again, this isn’t unique to England.  Indeed, the notion is ubiquitous in the world of leftards.  They don’t understand that losing can be very useful in formulating a path to success.  Indeed, you can have no success if there is no losing.

I just can’t decide which is most indicative of our societal decline, building codes for bird feeders or the elimination of winners and losers?

The two stories reinforce each other. Refusing children the experiences which create mature, well-balanced adults leads to childish adults in governing roles making childish laws.

  2. HankH says:

See, the thing is leftists don’t trust their own ability to think. Emotions overrule sound thinking in their inner thoughtless world. They need the government to tell them how to think, what to think, and specifically when to think. Because they can’t think, they assume (without thinking, of course) that their neighbors are unable to think about a friggin’ bird feeder.

The birds who might visit the illegal feeders clearly have more brains than the leftists who can’t think at that level. In this case, calling a leftist a bird brain would be an undue complement.

  3. I’m glad they can’t see my bird feeder! Don’t get many squirrels
    but Deer by the herd!

And #3 on the hit parade? An idiot in Virginia wants to disallow anyone from disagreeing with CAGW – why? She says it is a fact.

  5. Bruce says:

Nothing beats Canadians at this game. Remember the kids soccer rule that if any team won by 5 goals they would lose?

    • Lars P. says:

      That’s a good rule.
If you see you are losing just do yourself a couple of self-goals – and voila – a winner! (unless the other team does the same)

I have just been watching some American movie which triggered a thought. The thought was what is it with Americans and food having banned MSG a great product and someone mentioning peanut oil being banned for frying and we know NY has some ban about trans fats. The phrase that brought up the thought was “Land of the Free, Home of the Brave” , so you Free Brave people couldn’t even eat a sausage roll or meat pie in Australia as I am sure they would have banned products let alone authentic Asian food which will almost always have MSG. (it is a little ironic that the owner of the biggest meat pie company in Australia is American, I am not sure this is still the case but it was, and he wanted to sack every smoking employee and that idea lasted about 20 seconds),

To my knowledge Monosodium glutamate is not banned anywhere.
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monosodium_glutamate#Safety
How do you get that ides? It’s naturally occuring anyway.

      • DirkH says:

that ides –> that idea ; sorry

      • kelly liddle says:

It appears I am wrong yet again. I have been doing this a bit lately, maybe I should google everything I am about to speak.

      • philjourdan says:

In Kelly’s defense, like Transfats (and before that Saturated fats), it has been vilified and alleged to have been responsible for the Cruxifixion of Christ. But the lack of evidence is why the FDA never got around to banning it.

      • suyts says:

No doubt. AFAIK, MSG isn’t banned, but, they’re working on it.

Kelly, I don’t know why the left pre-occupies themselves with our foods. Guilt for being well fed? Or is it that they hate the fact that some of us enjoy foods…. they are the ultimate killjoys. We haven’t gone as nutty as the EU, yet. (Well, NYC and just a few other places being exceptions) but, you’re right. It’s difficult to say we’re free or brave when we place these restrictions on our food. It’s irritating as all hell for me.

  7. Jason Calley says:

If I had to choose which was worse, I would say that it is the bird feeder ban. That means that you can’t get away from the burning stupid even if you go home and mind your own business.

  8. phodges says:

    “Corruptissima re publica plurimae leges.”

  9. cdquarles says:

Removing competition is the worst in my mind. You can have equality of opportunity, but you can’t have equality of results, even in a totalitarian society.

Still, competition is a part of human nature. Ah yes, something else leftists want to ‘wish away’ from reality.

  10. DirkH says:

Maybe they should have abolished winning while keeping the losing. Would be a good preparation for the future of the UK.
