As we can see, the total is above the mean. As the SH ice has been or at the mean for a year and 1/2. But, with some very short durations, it has been over the mean since about 2002.
But, for those watching the arctic race for this year, there’s been a couple developments…….
I posted this the other day, noting that the arctic ice seemed to be thickening……
There seems to be some significant change, now……
Note the thinning which seems to be occurring north of the Alaska/Canadian border.
But, the thinning isn’t because of the temps. Although just outside the 80 deg mark, I’d say the temps are still below freezing.

Which makes me scratch my head.
So, there you have it. Sea ice isn’t indicating anything global. But, in concerns for this years pending minimum we see some changes worth noting.
