Nature Rag Runs In A Circle Of Fail

 

Well, more high browed intellectual stuff from the really sciency super smart people at nature and the brilliant scientists who get to publish just about anything if it fits the meme.  Of course, when this happens, it becomes a bit problematic.  There was actually a time when I would have gotten pretty excited about this study.  It would actually show some things which reinforce the skeptic position.  But, I know alarmists, and the rags they use for self-validation. 

The last Nature article I read basically invented a group of people they called climate change deniers.  It basically stated that deniers deny everything so there’s no point trying to convince them by spewing any more of the sophomoric idiocy so prevalent at Nature towards those evil denying deniers. 

Well, they didn’t listen to themselves and decided to continue.  Over the years, there has been several very inconvenient studies and observations about our past climate.  Such as this rendering….

  

Now, they’ve done their level best to get people to quit looking at this stuff!!!  It’s quite fascinating.  Invariably, if one gets into a discussion with an alarmist about this, they simply call “no counts” and blithely go on blathering about CO2.  Adding validity to the graph above, it’s been noted that the Late Miocene period, (~ 12-5 million years ago) the CO2 levels were near what they are today(actually a bit lower according to some new deep-sea sediment cores), but the temps were much warmer.  (9–14 degrees Fahrenheit).  

So, what is there to do about this information?  The evil denyering deniers will continue to say there might be something else controlling the climate instead of SUVs and coal plants!  Well, apparently, they had a team huddle, and one of the obliviots passed on the “no counts” technique.  It seemed to work for all parties, and so now it’s official.  NO COUNTS!!!!

It’s fascinating how Environmental Research characterizes this.

….. paleoclimate researchers reveal that about 12–5 million years ago climate was decoupled from atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations. New evidence of this ……….

This is great!  New evidence …… until now.  Like, this is the first they’d ever heard of this!  “What is this low CO2 high temp thing you speak of?”   

Of course, this utterly destroys the CO2 meme.  So, you have to come up with an explanation for this.  And, it’s a beautiful circle of fail. 

…….. little is known about the climate of the late Miocene (~12–5 Myr ago), an interval with p_co2 values of only 200–350 parts per million by volume but nearly ice-free conditions in the Northern Hemisphere and warmer-than-modern temperatures on the continents. Here we present quantitative geochemical sea surface temperature estimates from the Miocene mid-latitude North Pacific Ocean, and show that oceanic warmth persisted throughout the interval of low p_co2 ~12–5 Myr ago. We also present new stable isotope measurements from the western equatorial Pacific that, in conjunction with previously published data, reveal a long-term trend of thermocline shoaling in the equatorial Pacific since ~13 Myr ago. We propose that a relatively deep global thermocline, reductions in low-latitude gradients in sea surface temperature, and cloud and water vapour feedbacks may help to explain the warmth of the late Miocene. Additional shoaling of the thermocline after 5 Myr ago probably explains the stronger coupling between p_co2, sea surface temperatures and climate that is characteristic of the more recent Pliocene and Pleistocene epochs.

Environmental Research goes on to quote one of the authors, Jonathan LaRivier,

“In the late Miocene, there must have been some other way for the world to be warm. One possibility is that large-scale patterns in ocean circulation, determined by the very different shape of the ocean basins at the time, allowed warm temperatures to persist despite low levels of carbon dioxide.”

The scientists suggest that this deep thermocline resulted in a distribution of atmospheric water vapor and clouds that could have maintained the warm global climate.

Several major differences in the world’s waterways could have contributed to the deep thermocline and the warm temperatures of the late Miocene.

Now, essentially, they claim no counts because things have changed.  The only problem we have with that is the radiative calculations equated to our temps.  I’ve never once found a calculation which had circulatory variables in it.  Water vapor and clouds?  Lol, yes, I felt a cloud pass overhead today, the radiative bounce burned so much I had to duck inside……. oh, wait. 

So, CO2 controls the climate except when it doesn’t.  Nice, brilliant piece of science, science guys.  They can’t even get the proper physical processes right.
