Trump fires FBI Director Comey
……“Today, President Donald J. Trump informed FBI Director James Comey that he has been terminated and removed from office,” White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said in a statement.
He also said the president acted “on the clear recommendations” of both Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
“The FBI is one of our Nation’s most cherished and respected institutions and today will mark a new beginning for our crown jewel of law enforcement,” Trump said.
A search for a new permanent FBI director will begin immediately.
The White House made the stunning announcement shortly after the FBI corrected a sentence in Comey’s sworn testimony on Capitol Hill last week.
The director told lawmakers that Huma Abedin, when a top aide to Hillary Clinton at the State Department, had sent “hundreds and thousands” of emails to her husband’s laptop, including some with classified information.
On Tuesday, the FBI said in a two-page letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee that only “a small number” of the thousands of emails found on the laptop had been forwarded there while most had simply been backed up from electronic devices. …..
He wasn’t fired because of the “corrected testimony”. He addressed congress in a closed door meeting, today.

Former President Barack Obama warned the world that more people on the planet were eating meat, causing a dramatic rise in climate emissions.
“As people want to increase meat consumption, that in turn is spiking the growth of greenhouse emissions coming out of the agricultural sector,” Obama said, pointing to countries that were consuming more meat.
The former president shared his views about the growing threat during a conversation about food with his former chef Sam Kass at a food innovation summit in Milan.
“People aren’t as familiar with the impact of cows and methane,” Obama said, adding that “as people want to increase more meat consumption, that in turn is spiking the growth of greenhouse emissions coming out of the agricultural sectors.”
The amount of cows, Obama explained, were contributing to global pollution, alluding to the amounts of methane gas emissions from cow herds.
“No matter what, we are going to see an increase in meat consumption,” Obama said, pointing to developing economies in China, India, Indonesia, and Vietnam. More advanced countries, Obama said, would have to teach people to “have a smaller steak” and explore reductions to their meat consumption.
“What it does mean is that we’re also going to have to find ways to produce protein in a more efficient way,” he said.
During the conversation, Obama argued with Kass about how many steaks he had cooked him.
Kass said that he probably cooked “thousands of steaks” for the president, but Obama interrupted.
“I don’t think, thousands,” he protested.
“Well hundreds maybe,” Kass backtracked. “I’ve been cooking for you for 10 years.”
“What is true is that I’m not a vegetarian,” Obama admitted, adding that he “respected vegetarians” but continued to eat meat.

Do note that the main failure of Hansen’s “Scenario A” projection from 1988 is that it overprojects GHG levels in the atmosphere…not from CO2, which is pretty much spot on, but in methane. That’s right, we are at way lower methane levels than we expected 30 yr ago. So how can Obama say the above? And I’ve always argued that cows converting vegetation to methane isn’t necessarily different than microbial degradation of the vegetation.
And I am a chemist, but gas-phase radical chemistry is not something I am an expert in off the top of my head. However, I believe the formula you wrote may be important for an atmosphere like Titan’s, but is probably inconsequential for Earth. Forming a methyl radical is unlikely, and the probability of two of them self reacting (as opposed to reacting with another, more abundant radical) is unlikely. Instead, the oxidation of methane to (eventually) CO2 is probably the main sink. Just speculation on my part though…

Hmmm, Scott, I have come to believe/led to believe that the UV rays of the sun causes the radicalization of the methane molecule. ……which is why ethane is present in our atmosphere to begin with. That said, I’m open to a greater education on this topic.
Certainly possible James, just seems less likely than other options to me. Again, certainly not my area of expertise. Nor do I have time to look into it in detail.
The Wiki page for methane seems to have some legit info, but you never know with their huge CAGW bias (just a note that its atmospheric lifetime on that page is listed as 9.6 yr)… However, it does look like reaction with hydroxyl radical is a main driving force for the fate of both methane and the methyl radical. This makes sense since hydroxyl radical is such a dominant player in atmospheric chemistry and is in line with what I postulated. Looking briefly, looks like ethane primarily comes from fossil fuel reserves (basically, any place that has methane in the ground should have ethane too). I don’t see the reaction of two methyl radicals leading to ethane as a main source anywhere though.

I really don’t know. It could be that he asked for more resources for the Trump/Russia probe, but, I doubt it. It could be his refusal to acknowledge the law and failed to prosecute Hillary and her minions in the email scandal …… but, that seems a stretch for the beltway people.
Comey was in a catch-22 right there. The FBI does not prosecute anyone. The local DAs, the state DAs, and the Justice Department does that.
So here you are, Mr. Comey, (who should never have prosecuted Martha Stewart, but did so for, I say, political reasons). You have evidence of a crime. The subject of interest is running for the office that is your boss. You are between a rock and a hard place. You have to refer or not to refer this file to the Justice Department. You ask yourself, would AG Lynch prosecute or allow some other attorney do it as an agent of the DOJ? Not on your life would she do it (recall that tarmac meeting of AG Lynch and Former POTUS William Jefferson Blythe Clinton, the impeached one?).
Now, on the other hand, you know that the voting public needs to know this, so how do you do it? Violate DOJ rules and put on a press conference. You know that Obama will not fire you at this point. Resigning won’t have the same impact. You know that you will not be FBI Director long either way.
Comey was fired since Trump’s inauguration. Trump just waited for the right moment to tell him.
And, there are hundreds more like that.
Trump is no idealogue. I think he is giving some of the hold overs a chance to prove themselves. Comey clearly refused. He is running his presidency like the Apprentice. And he is not going to hesitate to say “You’re Fired” to those who fail to produce.

After giving Hillary a get out of jail free card, he then implicated her with Weiner, so I guess the 2 kind of washed. But one thing it sure did was make him the enemy of both sides.

With respect to methane and more importantly, ethylene, which is just one of a large number of VOC (volatile organic compounds) released by biological organisms. I saw work done in the late 70s/early 80s that showed *soot* being formed naturally from ethylene via UV directly and indirectly (via hydroxyl radicals, ozone and other strong oxidizers). Soot, by the way, is nearly all carbon.
Implications? 1. As long as there is life, there will be “pollution”, since living things perpetuate themselves (be fruitful and multiply, lest ye be replaced) via chemistry. So, those “pristine” vistas are not really pristine. For that, you’d need a sterile piece of totally inert matter.
2. The “natural” background is assumed to be either neutral or net zero and only the subset of life on this rock known as humans “alter” the balance. Bollocks. One God put biological life on this rock, it has never been the same. The biggest terraforming life forms on this rock are among the smallest. That’s right, the bacteria and other single celled forms, which are maybe 90% of the Earths biomass and they do their thing under our noses and before our eyes without us noticing much.
