On an aside, while we were living in Germany, my dad struck up a conversation with an old German soldier and commented on how quickly the Germans took France in WWII ….. “days and nights” as my dad put it. The old German soldier corrected my dad …… he said it was only the days …… in the nights, they were doing the French women. I’m paraphrasing, of course.
That’s none of my business, but, I oddly thought it relevant to the latest women’s march.

France (and England) were preparing to fight another WWI. German Generals had already learned from that war and fought what came to be called a “Blitzkreig”, where you forward troops did not drag along the supplies they would need for an entire campaign – just enough to destroy the supply lines for the enemy behind their front lines.
While it is popular to prepare to fight the last war, history has shown us that is always a mistake.
But your greater point is well taken. In the real world, you do not get medals for participation. And that is all the “woman’s” march was about.

re the Blitzkrieg. The heads of French industry headed by L’Oreal had an agreement with the Nazis. They’d rather run their businesses under them then under the French socialists. Which were destined to run the country. So…. that’s the main reason it ran so smoothly.
In August, Parisians traditionaly go in vacation collectively. When they returned one year, they found their city ruled by Nazis. A few years later, when they again returned from vacation, they found the Nazis had been replaced by Americans.
