So, the Donald is the Republican nominee. He presumably stands in opposition to Hillary Clinton. —- Or, Bernie, it matters, not. I would always stand in opposition to Hillary and/or Bernie Sanders. One is a clueless buffoon full of vile thoughts, and the other is less clueless full of vile thoughts.
But, I also stand in opposition to Donald Trump. While I fully believe either Hillary or Bernie would be horrid for the American people, I don’t know that Donald would be any less horrid.
Please let me explain. But, before I explain, let me lay some things out ……..
The one and only Trump advocacy, which I’m fully for, is the “wall” he proposes to build. I wholeheartedly agree that this is a necessity. I think this is the most important thing we can do as a people to continue to be a “people”. There are a few other things Trump has identified as problems, but, his proposed solutions are in terrible error. Tyranny is never solved by opposite tyranny.
But, what has this to do with Roy Clark?
It’s a great song! Listen to it!!!
You see, one the most prominent arguments against unfettered immigration is that we “need” people to harvest our lettuce and apples and such.
We need them for the exact same reason it was necessary to have slaves to pick our cotton ….. to gin our cotton …. to do anything with our cotton. Even with the advent of the cotton gin, we still needed people to pick cotton. But, suddenly, with the Emancipation Proclamation, there could no longer be cotton pickers you didn’t have to pay.
It is true, cotton pickers remained. But, the demand for cotton remained, as well, and increased. It increased to a point where it was no longer economical to hire cotton pickers…… something else had to occur, and it did.
As a young man, I used to “haul hay”. That is to say, the farmer would bail it on the field, and people like me would pick it up and move it to their barn. Horrid work!!! Good work!!!
But, as things are in this world, we always find more efficient ways to do things. Just as we don’t pick cotton anymore, I almost never see the hay bales which I would haul. Today, the hay is baled in huge round bales. Sure, there are still some holdovers, but, it’s over. The day of living off of hauling hay is over. Technology is ending hay haulers.
Now, some will see this, as Luddites do, as a harm to the American worker. It is not. You see, for every hay hauler making a subsistence wage, companies had to hire workers to make the machinery which supplanted the hay haulers. It’s simply a more efficient and cost effective way to do things. More efficiency and more cost effectiveness means more wealth to the general public. Computers used to cost thousands of dollars. It is only by the increase of efficiency and technology which allowed millions to have computers and millions to have jobs producing and supporting said computers.
It would be the same for lettuce and apple pickers. Instead, there is an insistence that we have to have these people because the American people are not willing to do such things. It’s farcical! If you pay me enough money, I’ll pick more lettuce than you can produce! But, you have to pay me. <—— And, this is what necessitates innovation. It is the insistence of cheap labor which encumbers and thwarts innovation and efficiency. It literally costs jobs/employment, and cheaper produce to insist on the manual and imported labor.
Don’t tell me we can’t invent a lettuce picker. We’ve invented combines!!!! We can easily harvest corn!!! You can’t tell me we can come up with a way to more efficiently harvest corn but, not lettuce. We haven’t, yet, because some jackwagons have convinced everyone else we need illegals/slaves to pick/chop our lettuce.
I promise you, if we install doors, this nation will significantly increase in wealth and standard of living for every person living here.
That stated, I have no doubt in my mind that Donald Trump doesn’t understand a damned word I wrote.
The bullet is a mad thing, only the bayonet knows what it is about. —-Alexander Suvorov
Let me try to be less cryptic. A mad thing destroys things it doesn’t understand. Your enemy, you must understand. You will never defeat a significant enemy if you don’t understand the enemy. It is much worse if you don’t understand who your enemy is.
Our fight isn’t with immigrants, illegal or otherwise, our fight isn’t with ISIS, or Al Qaeda, our fight isn’t against Russia nor China. Our fight is with the sorry sons-of-a-bitches that
let caused those bitches be a problem for us.
None of the problems I mentioned in the previous paragraph should be a problem. All of the problems I mentioned are easily dispatched by the will of the American people. Most of the American public wishes these problems to go away. It can easily be done with minimal angst.
All it necessitates is a somewhat intelligent person who understands the interests of the American people. In my view, there are no current presidential candidates who rise to such a standard.
There is much more to state. And, I will. But, time and beer is cutting this short. But, I will end this post with this ……
I’ve been told to vote the “lesser of two evils” time and again. And, time and again, I complied. Each time, I ended with exactly what I voted for —– evil.
I’ll never do it again.
