December 27 Scripture Selection: Zechariah 1-4
Food for Thought: Zech. 3:8-9
The One Who has done away with iniquity in one single day is Jesus Christ Himself, the Stone that the Lord has laid on which He has engraved an inscription. Nothing or no one else can ever do what the Lord has accomplished. There is no substitute or replacement for Him. So any attentions focused or devoted in any other direction is in error and in vain.
Jesus is called “The Stone that the builders rejected (Luke 20:17; Ps. 118:22).” Though the signs verifying Who He was were extensive and obvious, the Jews rejected Him. Such blinding pride, hardened hearts, and rebellion are not so different today. Every time Jesus is disregarded in lieu of something that better fits people’s personal preference or suits their life-style, they are rejecting the Corner-stone and foundation for life. Every time His Word is altered or cast aside, Jesus, the only hope for true life, is cast aside.
Ephesians 2:12 accurately describes those of us who once lacked that hope: “that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.” (Just believing in the existence of God is not enough!) We can only find hope in Jesus, as Romans 15:12 tells us, quoting the prophet Isaiah: “There shall be a root of Jesse; and He who shall rise to reign over the Gentiles, in Him the Gentiles shall hope.” This Precious Stone, though laid for a foundation, is the only One on which our lives can be firmly built, and He must be the only One to occupy the corner-stone position, for another cannot fit with it nor replace it. Our hope is built on this Stone alone.
