December 24 Scripture Selection: Habakkuk 1-3
Food for Thought: Hab. 3:17-19
We live in an imperfect world, and things do not always go as we would like. We all face challenges, but Habakkuk puts things in perspective for us, a perspective that helps us stay focused on what really matters, one that actually lifts us up in tough situations and leads us to victory.
He says, “Though the fig tree may not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines; though the labor of the olive may fail, and the fields yield no food; though the flock may be cut off from the fold, and there be no herd in the stalls—yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The Lord God is my strength; He will make my feet like deer’s feet, and He will make me walk on my high hills.”
Our loyalty to the Lord can not be conditional. He is worthy to be praised and adored, no matter what happens because our gratitude is based on Who He is and all He has done for us by sending Jesus to be our Lord and Savior. Nothing that occurs in our life can change that, and nothing can ever separate us from His love (Rom. 8:35-39). Anything that may happen today is only temporary, a tiny speck on the time line of eternity, in comparison to the glorious future that the Lord has provided for us.
Our resolve to praise Him, no matter what, is the manifestation of our trust in Him. As the omnipotent, omniscient God, He has the bigger picture, and what He has provided for us is much greater and worth so much more than any hardship we may face today. We can trust Him with our lives, and He is worthy of all our thanksgiving, praise, and worship. So this Christmas, even if all our circumstances are not as we wish they would be, we can keep our focus on celebrating the birth of Jesus and rejoice in Him, the joy of our salvation, the One Who gives us strength and lifts us high.
