December 14 Scripture Selection: Hosea 1-7
Food for Thought: Hos. 4:6
In the context of Hosea 4:6, the Lord was holding the priests directly responsible for the demise of the people because they had abandoned the truth and would not lead the people in it. Still today, it is vital that ministers teach the truth. However, today we all have available the truth of God’s Word by which we can grow and live. Anyone seeking the truth will find it, because Jesus promises He will never leave that person in the dark (Mat. 7:7).
Like the Jews of the days of Hosea who had lost their way and suffered because of a lack of knowledge of the truth that should have been taught by the priests, today anytime we see people suffering and perishing, or headed in the wrong direction in life, it is always because of a lack of understanding of the Word of God. Knowledge is power. Knowledge of the Truth contains the power to make people free (John 8:32).
The Word says, “The just shall live by faith,” and faith is what propels us in our lives to move in the right direction and know what to do. And faith only comes from hearing, and hearing, the Word of God (Rom. 10:17). Therefore, the key to gaining true knowledge—not just “head knowledge”—is to submit to the Word of God, body, soul, and spirit.
It begins with receiving the truth of Jesus as Savior and being born again. In that instant, you get a new spirit, one that is joined with the all-knowing Spirit of God Who promises to lead you and guide you into ALL truth (John 16:13). Then, you grow in Him. I Peter 2:2 says, “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the Word that you may grow thereby.” Just as newborns must eat frequently, so must we. Otherwise, our growth is stunted, and we may be deprived of essential elements to live by, and the consequences may be severe, even deadly.
So if anyone feels that he/she is perishing in a particular area of his/her life, the answer is to gain knowledge of the Word of God to know what to do by the Spirit. The Lord would not have that any of us remain ignorant. He has given all who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ His Word and the mind of Christ by which we can be led, if we will draw from the wealth of knowledge He offers instead of trying to make it by our own will and way. The solution for everything is in Him and in His Word.
