December 11 Scripture Selection: Daniel 7-8
Food for Thought: Dan. 8:15-16
People still have dreams and visions sent from God, particularly as a result of the pouring out of the Holy Spirit as promised in Joel 2:28 in the last days. While not all visions and dreams come from God, one thing we can be sure of is that God will make known the interpretation and message of the ones that are from Him in due time. Because He loves us, He will certainly not leave us in the dark about anything that He has taken the time to show us. If if is important and pertains to us, He will let us know.
As an example of the Lord’s faithfulness to reveal the meaning of a vision or dream, Acts 10:9-28 records a vision of great significance that the apostle Peter had. It was essential that Peter and the Jewish Christians understand the concept of salvation for all men, for the Jews and also for the Gentiles, and the Lord used a vision to get his attention and instill the message.
The apostle Paul was also led at times by spiritual dreams and visions. One example is cited in Acts 16:8-10 in which he saw a man from Macedonia beckoning him to come. Paul’s obedience to the message led to the founding of a church in Philippi. This type of guidance remains as one of the ways the Lord speaks to us. Dreams and visions also may reveal the future, as in the case of the spectacular visions given to the apostle John, like those of Daniel, which brought us the book of Revelation.
We don’t have to look for dreams and visions or do anything to “conjure” them up, nor should we make something out of every dream we have. But as we are led by the Spirit, He will make sure that our attention is directed to it if it is something of significance. He will also let us know how to proceed once we understand the message. As His sons and daughters and members of His kingdom, He will lead us and also let us know what we can expect around the corner. Dreams and visions are just one of the ways that the Lord chooses to keep us informed.
