December 10 Scripture Selection: Daniel 5-6
Food for Thought: Dan. 5:13, 14; 6:3-5, 16
The highest compliment anyone of the world could pay a believer is to say, “I have heard of you, that the Spirit of God is in you, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found in you (5:14).” Even some unbelievers appreciate such qualities and rely on the godly gifts found in the believer who is living a life that reflects God’s character. And the closer those people get to the godly person, the more obvious it becomes that all the glory goes to the Lord.
Jesus told His followers, “You are the light of the world. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven (Mat. 5:14a, 16).” People do see and take notice of the stark difference between darkness and light, and many are attracted to the light. They are grateful for the good works and are even recipients of the advantages of having such godly people among them. (Have you ever noticed how often an unbeliever turns to a Christian for prayer or help when in a difficult or urgent situation?)
The apostle Paul prayed for the believers, “… that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light Col. 1:9-12).” Everyone who walks in the fulfillment of this prayer will most definitely be among those about whom, like Daniel, it is said, “I have heard of you. Your reputation of being of good character and having special abilities precedes you. Can you help me?” And more glory goes to the Father.
