December 2 Scripture Selection: Ezekiel 37-38
Food for Thought: Ez. 37:1-10
There are two very important concepts to draw from today’s reading: First, nothing is ever so dead that the Lord cannot bring life back into it—whether it be a loved one drowning in the depths of sin, a marriage, a financial situation, a church, a nation, a dream for the future, or anything. “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God (Luke 18:27).” So do not be moved by whatever you see that is tragically, completely dead. Jesus says in Matthew 19:26, “With God, all things are possible! (exclamation mine)”
The second concept equally as important is that God uses man to be His mouthpiece to bring about His will. He usually does not work independently of man since He created man (mankind, male and female) and placed him on earth to take dominion and act as His representative. In Ezekiel 37, as in so many other places in the Bible, we see God’s insistence that a man be the one to speak, and in this case to the dry bones. Of course, it is God’s power working in him, but the Lord desires to use man to perform amazing signs and wonders.
Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Notice also in Mark 11:23 the emphasis that Jesus puts on the power of what one says: “For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.” So instead of agreeing with what we see and declaring a situation to be hopeless, if we are led by the Spirit to call it to life, then we should just believe and speak it out in unwavering faith, leaving the results to God.
Can these bones live? Can there be renewed life in the situation? Most definitely, yes! Get God’s Word regarding it, and speak life. Then stand back in faith and see the marvels of God’s power come to pass. (See II Chron. 20:17; Ex. 34:10.)
