November 19 Scripture Selection: Ezekiel 11-12

Food for Thought: Ez. 12:25-28

It is human nature to always think that unpleasant events will take place sometime far in the future and delay giving them any attention. It’s something to deal with later, so people often fail to take warnings seriously. (In fact, in disbelief, many simply reject the warnings entirely, as the Israelites exemplified.) However, it is wise to take every word of the Lord for us seriously and give it the attention it deserves now.

Whether ominous warnings or happy news, one thing we can be very sure of is that God promises to fulfill His Word, and He will do so. Though it may seem delayed in our time frame, it comes quite quickly for the Lord (in relation to eternity), so we may as well treat it as a fact for the here and now and act accordingly in faith. As we are prompted by the Holy Spirit regarding any issue, our best response is to react immediately and make the necessary adjustments or take the necessary steps. After all, it is always in our best interest to do so. Anything less than that leaves us lacking something in God’s perfect plan for our lives, and a delayed response can bring dire consequences.

Proverbs 8:33 encourages us to “Hear instruction and be wise, and do not disdain it.” When we realize that the Lord loves us so immensely and desires only the best for us, then we know that we can trust Him with our lives. So if He has a word for us—whether it be a word of correction, direction, or consolation—receiving it quickly is most advantageous for us. “For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand. Today, if you will hear His voice: ‘Do not harden your hearts, as in the rebellion (Ps. 95:7-8)…’” The words of Psalm 143:8 offer a great prayer and confession of faith to declare for ourselves today: “Cause me to hear Your loving kindness in the morning, for in You do I trust; cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul to You.” As we hear His instructions and train ourselves to be quick to respond in faith, we will enjoy all of God’s best for our lives.
