November 12 Scripture Selection: Jeremiah 51-52

Food for Thought: Jer. 51:6

Babylon is a metaphor for the world’s system that goes completely contrary to the Kingdom of God. It is materialistic, polytheistic, with its main priority being to seek self-gratification at any and all cost, and behind it all is Satan, the god of this world (II Cor. 4:4). I John 5:19 explains, “the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one” for whom the Bible warns eventually there will be a day judgment and of reckoning. But God’s grace is extended to all those who turn to Christ, choose life in Him, and get out from under Satan’s grip.

Nothing good can ever come from living according to the world’s system. That is why I John 2:15-16 tells us, “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” And Romans 12:2 says, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

The world offers things that may seem very appealing, but in the end are destructive. “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death (Prov. 14:12).” The only true way to have life and enjoy God’s blessings is to dwell in the Kingdom of God which is peace, joy and righteousness in the Holy Spirit (Rom. 14:17). Any other way will only bring regret.

  1. And the LORD God ‘formed’ man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul
And God saw every thing that he had made , and, behold, it was very good.
Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And the serpent beguiled the man that God
had formed and the man became not so good. ‘Deformed’.
And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth they said, let us build a tower to Heaven and make our own way.
We will ‘reform’ ourselves and we will be good again.
Then God sent a Messenger to ‘inform’ men that they in no way could they make themselves good again. But they rejected God’s Messenger.
They said, we will ‘conform’ to this new way, our way, and we will be good again.
Then God said “be not ‘conformed’ to this way made by men, but be ‘transformed’ to the new Way I have made. I will renew you and you will
    be very very good”.
