September 30 Scripture Selection: Isaiah 13-15
Food for Thought: Is. 14:12- 21
Is this who all the fuss has been about?! Lucifer tried to be like the Most High God and was cut down to the ground. He is a defeated foe. He is under our feet, and never to be feared because the Greater One lives in us! And when Satan looks at a believer in Jesus, he sees the blood of Jesus and the very Spirit of God within us (I John 4:8). Next to God, Satan is less than a cockroach.
When Jesus took on Himself all sin and every curse that Satan could hurl at Him and was taken to the pit of hell, He took the keys from Satan and publicly showed his superiority over him and his cohorts (Col. 2:15; Rev. 1:18) as He spectacularly rose from the dead and even opened the graves of the saints of old, raising them from the dead (Mat. 27:52). Jesus bruised his head after Satan bruised His heel (Gen. 3:15)!
The devil’s only weapon is deception to produce fear. Though he has already been defeated, he knows that faith loses its firm hold if we allow him to cause us fear, giving him permission to work his evil plan. Satan “walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour (I Pet. 5:8).” But if we remain vigilant and strong, unmoved by his roar while holding up the shield of faith with which to quench his fiery darts (Eph. 6:16), no place is provided for Satan to perform his wicked deeds. We are promised in James 4:7 that if we resist the devil, he WILL flee.
Well-equipped with the whole armor of God, we are quite able to stand against the wiles of the devil (Eph. 6:11). That is why we can say confidently, “I will fear no evil; for You are with me (Ps. 23:4).” The One Who has already defeated Satan lives in us.
