September 28 Scripture Selection: Isaiah 7-9

Food for Thought: Is. 7:14; 9:6, 7

Putting the pieces of the puzzle together from the Old Testament and the New, a beautiful picture of Jesus appears. The Lord skillfully and meticulously attaches each piece to the others in such a way that confirms the miraculous divinity and purpose of the Deity of Jesus so that whoever comes to Him must acknowledge Him as Lord of all.

Jesus is God. He is not just a good man, or a great prophet. He is God and must be received as such. His name is Immanuel (Emmanuel), meaning “God with us,” though His greatness is so vast, that just one name cannot suffice to describe Him and His calling. He is also called Wonderful (One Who performs wonders), Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting (eternal) Father, and Prince of Peace, to name a few. His kingdom is forever, something no mere man could ever boast.

Colossians 1:15-18 makes very clear the position of Jesus Christ:

“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.” (See also John 1:1-4, 14 for further confirmation.)

Everyone who understands the most high position of Jesus and receives Him as such enjoys the eternal life that He has come to give and can confess as we do: “And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life (I John 5:10).”
