September 19 Scripture Selection: Proverbs 30

Food for Thought: Prov. 30:11-14

Well, the generation described in Proverbs chapter 30 is also portrayed in the apostle Paul’s description of the evil manifestations of the last days in II Timothy 3:1-5 (notice also the similarities of Romans 1:18-32). They are indication that things will soon be wrapping up. However, this does not mean that we should resign ourselves to accepting conditions as they are and give up on our calling to be light to the world. The Lord is not finished yet, and we want Him to say to us at the final call, “Well done, my faithful servant.” So until then, our life’s slogan may be, “Not me (referring to the description of godless people), and not on my watch (implying that we can determine to a great degree the spiritual condition of our children, AND have a positive impact on the people the Lord sends our way, AND successfully combat the evil influences of the devil—by the power working in us (Eph. 1:19))!”

Not even Jesus could tell when the end will come (Mat. 24:36). Could it be that the date of His arrival depends entirely on the will and authority given and exercised by the believers to hold back the darkness? Faith and God’s Word will always work as long as we apply it. Just because we find ourselves in the last days does not mean that the power of faith and God’s Word has expired. Jesus said, “And lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Interestingly, He said that to His disciples within the context of the Great Commission (Mat. 28:19, 20).

And to fulfill the mission, He told them He would give them power. He said in Acts 1:7, 8, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Yes, things are getting really ugly. But greater is He Who is in us than he that is in the world (I John 4:4). That is why we can say confidently, “Not me, and not on my watch.”

Getting Personal (What has God shown you in today’s reading?):

Confession of Faith (Example: Lord, based on Mat. 1:21 and 23, I understand that Jesus is God, and I receive Him as my personal Lord and Savior.):

There will be no all out war. Don’t worry. Nukes are a hoax BTW. (Films were produced by Lookout Mountain Labs – Hiroshima and Nagasaki were firebombed. Nuke photos were photo montages.)

In one particularly crazy development, Obama admin and ChiComs just agreed to stop hacking each other. The Chinese will continue to dump treasuries though. The Saudis will likely participate!

So what you Americans should do is: Stock up on durable foodstuffs and fuel! Maybe some lead as well – unfortunately as a German I can’t do the latter…
