September 13 Scripture Selection: Proverbs 24
Food for Thought: Prov. 24:11, 12
All around us there are people headed down a deadly path, and if there is anything we can do by the power of the Holy Spirit within us (Eph. 3:20) to warn them and steer them in a different direction, we need to do it. Some believers, however, just take the resigned attitude that, 1) It is none of their business; 2) They don’t want to get involved; or 3) If they want to destroy themselves, then let them. But none of those reflect the love of God Who has sent us to do whatever we can to save as many as possible.
Of course, this goes for the innocent babies who are headed for slaughter. Ask the Lord how you can intervene and prevent a desperate, scared, or deceived expectant mother from making such a horrid decision. It will probably require some personal involvement and sacrifice. For those who do not know any such cases personally, there is much they can do to support ministries and political efforts to change this shameful thing in our country. What’s important is that we are aware that the murders are taking place, so we must do something about it and not just shrug our shoulders as people with no concern or hope.
If we just look around, we can see so many people who are on a self-destructive path. We need to love them enough to tell them the truth and offer them a better Way (John 14:6) instead of just shaking our heads in disdain. This never includes pointing the finger at them and condemning them (Is. 58:9; Rom. John 3:17). Rather, it is about persistently and lovingly offering a Life-line, regardless of their initial reactions to it.
As representatives of Jesus Christ (II Cor. 5:20), we just cannot stand by and watch people take the wide road that leads to destruction (Mat. 7:13, 14) when we have experienced the life-saving solution for ourselves. Someone cared enough to rescue us; now it is our turn to devote our lives and rescue as many as possible. (See Luke 14:16-23.)
