August 23 Scripture Selection: Proverbs 3
Food for Thought: Prov. 3:1, 2, 7, 8, 13, 16
There is a very practical benefit to living by the Word of God. Applying the Word in your life actually has a most positive affect on your health, working in both the spiritual realm of power and faith and in the natural. So one of the wisest things that anyone can do is live by the Word of God and remain connected to the love of God.
Notice that the Bible says that keeping the Word lengthens your life and brings you peace (vs. 1, 2, 13, 16). What’s more, the fear of the Lord (acknowledging Him as Lord and living in reverence of Him) and departing from evil is “health to your flesh and strength to your bones (vs. 7, 8).” “Riches and honor” also come to the one who lives by the Word. (This makes a lot of sense on a practical side. People who do not cause their bodies harm by participating in a sinful life-style and do not waste their money on detrimental things prosper and are also respected for their godly example.)
“Happy, is the man who finds wisdom,” the kind of wisdom that comes from God (vs. 13). That kind of wisdom to know how to live and what to do and what not to do is “a tree of LIFE to those who take hold of her (vs. 18).” The person who finds this wisdom and lives by it is happy, fulfilled, and blessed.
