Scotland’s winter snow still hasn’t melted. Cool pictures, looks spectacular, but isn’t it this way that glaciers start forming – with snow not melting through the melting season?
Yes, of course, too early to talk about this (lets come back in a couple of years and then in a decade), but imagine the alarmists if they would run now the ice age scare instead of “global warming” ….

In the end I would be very surprised if they would not find any archae-like microorganisms leaving under a certain depth, but possibly Curiosity is still not able – does not have the needed capability – to find them.

2 points of view of the same story, but also with the second point I still find it stupid:

Nice thing. Actually had some coverage in the local Newcastle nightly news just now of the SF Houston preseason game. I’m surprised and pleased because I’ve been a 49ers fan for as long as we’ve had NFL here. And because one of our favourite sons got a run, literally.

A very good rugby league player accepted a tryout for the 49ers as a running back, which is amazing since I can’t remember a running back who isn’t an African-American. Jarrod Hayne is fairly Anglo. So to my surprise he’s survived the tryouts and the Niners gave him a go in the Houston game. Which they lost…can’t have everything. 🙂

But Hayne managed a sweet 53 yarder and some other carries and was even given the best rushing gong by ESPN. Which is amazingly amazing. Almost impossible even. There never has been a running back from Australia in the NFL that I can remember. The skills and the lack of immersion in American football from birth I thought would be insurmountable. Just memorising the plays is a mountain to climb. Aussies who have done well have tended to be kickers drawn from the AFL (Aussie Rules comp). So Hayne has the goods enough to get on a field in anger. Cool! He looked pretty good, but a preseason game is not the prime time, and he’s still a roughie.
