August 9 Scripture Selection: Psalm 127-128
Food for Thought: Ps. 127:1, 2; 128:1
I feel sorry for the people who are working so hard “to make it,” but are doing so on their own and have completely disregarded God, His will, and His ways. They have not included the Lord in their lives or even consulted Him and are paying a very high price for it. It’s as if they were swimming upstream in a river full of jello. So much effort put forth, but at the end of it all, all their efforts will be for not.
Jesus spoke of this in a parable in Matthew 7:24-27 saying, “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” The Lord and His will must be the foundation for everything in our lives, or disaster will eventually come and ruin even the works of our hands of our best intentions.
The good news is that if we allow Him to lead us by His Word and His Spirit, then the results will be up to Him. And it won’t require reliance and faith in our own human efforts; rather, it will be based on the Lord’s strength, wisdom, and love flowing through us. There is a real peace and rest in that. Yes, there will be success, but it will be all due to Him, and all the glory will go to Him.
