August 8 Scripture Selection: Psalm 125-126

Food for Thought: Ps. 126:1-3

When the Hebrews suddenly found themselves free from captivity, they said they felt like they were dreaming. And instantly, their mouths were filled with joyous laughter and singing for the great things the Lord had done for them. What a grand celebration!

That’s exactly what it is like when you are born again. The weights of the past, the sorrows and tears, the burdens of the bondage are suddenly gone. You are free! Gloriously set free! The old things have passed away and all things have become new (II Cor. 5:17). A fresh new start. A new life in freedom. A new life in Christ.

That is the very purpose of the coming of Jesus Christ. He declared that as His mission in Luke 4:18: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed (See also Is. 61:1-3).” So it is a matter of knowing the truth of Jesus, accepting Him, and allowing Him to make you free. John 8:32 says, “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” And a few verses later, it says, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed (John 8:36).” Free indeed, mission accomplished!

Everyone who has given their lives to Jesus in exchange for a new one can rejoice like the Hebrews did and also join the psalmists who said, “You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness (Ps. 30:11),” for “The Lord has done great things for us, and we are glad (Ps. 126:3).”

Confession of Faith (Example: Lord, based on Mat. 1:21 and 23, I understand that Jesus is God, and I receive Him as my personal Lord and Savior.):

One Response to Gems 2015 — August 8 Scripture Selection: Psalm 125-126

  1. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.
What a great promise we have here. Remember it is not just going forth, one must do a lot of
    crying in prayer also!
