July 30 Scripture Selection: Psalm 107-108
Food for Thought: Ps. 108:12, 13
It has come to the point where we must rely on the help that can only come from the Lord. The Supreme Court is not going to do it; certainly the United Nations or any other man-made authority or entity is not going to, either. There is only one reliable source for the believer in Jesus Christ: God. Recent occurrences have really caused great dismay and even disgust, but all is certainly not lost. Isn’t the Lord and His Body (the anointed Church) greater than the Supreme Court or the United Nations or anything else on this earth? If we do not focus our hope on Him, then all is truly lost, but with Him, we can still see great and mighty things take place.
Jeremiah 17:5 says, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart departs from the Lord.’” Have we been putting too much of our trust in man all along? Those who have fallen into utter discouragement in their flesh most certainly have. However, as Christians, the Lord asks us to walk in the Spirit, where true reality and hope are found (Gal. 5:16, 25).
Like so many godly men and women of the Word who were not rocked to the core in the face of adversity, we need to be able to say with all assurance, “Our help is in the name of the Lord, Who made heaven and earth (Ps. 124:8).” His authority is higher than any other, and His love for us is even greater, so trusting in Him brings about much better results than expecting man to come through for us.
