July 26 Scripture Selection: Psalm 99-100
Food for Thought: Ps. 100:1-5
Well, we heard some terrible news today concerning our nation (as of this writing), and things look quite dire. So do we just pack it up and just throw in the towel? A thousand times, NO! The Lord didn’t cause the occurrence, and He is still worthy to receive all our thanksgiving, praise, and worship. Nothing really has changed with regard to our relationship with Him. On the contrary; the more damage caused by the enemy, the more enthusiastic and intentional should be our attentions toward our God.
Start off with thanksgiving. Bring your focus on to the good that the Lord has done. There is always something (many things, really) to be grateful for. Begin with the positive things in your personal life and work your way outward to what the Lord has done for your family, your community, your church, your country, and so on. We can even give God thanks for the food on our plate, the oxygen we breathe, the brilliant colors of the grass, flowers, trees, sky, and so on. While that may seem too simple, it is still important to acknowledge the goodness of the Lord Who so graciously provides such things, even when we don’t deserve them.
Spend some time in praise for His goodness, mercy, and truth which endure to all generations, regardless of all the nonsense and harmful events around us. The Lord is good. If He weren’t, He would have already done away with us all. Instead, He continues to uphold us and extend His hand even to those who have rejected Him. And in the end, the Lord and all those who love Him win, and the bad situations unfolding before us today pale in comparison to Him and the glorious things to come. So, eyes fixed on the Lord, keep thanking and praising Him.
