July 17 Scripture Selection: Psalm 81-82

Food for Thought: Ps. 81:6-7

All you have to do is ask! Jesus said in Matthew 7:7-8, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” Likewise, the Bible also says in Romans 10:13, “For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

There are so many people facing trouble, burdens, and bondages in their lives, but they face them alone—or they go through life without ever really addressing them—and do not give the Lord the opportunity to work on their behalf. Jesus came to earth to make us free from the effects of Satan and this broken world. In declaring His ministry in Luke 4:18-19 He says, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” However, He will not go where He is not invited. As James 4:8 says, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.”

This is not just for the ones who have never accepted Christ as Savior. There are Christians all around the world who try going it alone and never tap into the benefits that come with have Jesus as Lord and Savior. They never ask, or they ask only half-heartedly, and so they are left to deal with—or not—the tough things in life, muddling through alone. Let that not be the case today! Ask the Lord for help, and in faith expect Him to come to your aid.

    I love this part of today’s reading …..

    “The ‘gods’ know nothing, they understand nothing.
    They walk about in darkness;
    all the foundations of the earth are shaken.
    6 “I said, ‘You are “gods”;
    you are all sons of the Most High.’
    7 But you will die like mere mortals;
    you will fall like every other ruler.”

    • jsue says:

      Yes, this is a neat scripture, one that some people can’t quite swallow. But we are what the Word says we are as sons of the Most High.

  2. 14 Wherefore he saith , Awake thou that sleepest , and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light .
    I am so glad that He ‘commanded’ me to so this, yes this not a request . And I thank Him every day!
    Firstly He said,”let him hear” and I heard, then He said “arise from the dead”, and I came to life,
    then He opened my eyes, and I ‘knew’. Then He said “I set before you life and death, chose…..

  3. DirkH says:

    “Jesus came to earth to make us free from the effects of Satan and this broken world.”

    “Broken world” describes the mental state of all the Frankfurt School adherents to a T. It’s not a coincidence that they are also the areligious.

    • cdquarles says:

      Hmm, I doubt that anyone could be areligious, but okay. Or is it more likely, Dirk, that they are anti-Christian religious?

      Am I wrong in saying that faith is an innate facet of human nature? There are so many things that we don’t and can’t know, except by faith (the Hebrews 11:1 definition). Religions, in my view, are composed of two things: faith, whether stated or not and rituals. That’s why religion can’t save you, only accepting God by faith (the only true faith), accepting his Son as the sacrifice, accepting his Holy Spirit as a personal Comforter and follow the example of Jesus, the only true ritual.

      • DirkH says:

        Well maybe “leftist atheist” would be a better word. You know who I mean. The Dawkins worshippers etc.

        • DirkH says:

          They WANT to not believe in a higher being; because they have such insufficient information that they think science has an explanation for things. Alternatively, they add magical stuff like an automatic teleological drive to higher complexity ( like Thomas Nagel , ) to explain away obvious inconsistencies in the scientistic view IF they have sufficient information to recognize the holes in their worldview. All to save themselves from having to believe in a higher being – which would be the most obvious solution.

        • DirkH says:

          Without noticing that this way they basically re-invent pantheism.

      Great comments, guys!
