This is a heartbreaking commonality we have with our cousins abroad.
It isn’t that we have common enemies. That is to be expected. In spite of nearly 250 years of separation, we still have very much in common with the UK. And, in spite of our current leaders, there is, indeed, a special kinship, a special bond between the people of the US and of the UK.
What is heartbreaking, to me, anyway, is the inexplicable insane reactions each nation has had towards these horrid acts of terrorism.
Oh, sure, both nations have bombed and killed the crap out of some people, toppled a regime or two, and this is suppose to make the people of each nation feel better. But, other than to constrain and thwart the liberties of our own citizens, neither nation has done much towards actually making the people safer from such madness. To the contrary, our leadership seems to have gone in the opposite direction and seems to invite more lunatics to our soil.
Indeed, this was recently brought to our attention …….
Well, right, of course! Except that’s insanely stupid!
Look, it isn’t the extremist wing of the Harri Krishnas randomly slaughtering innocents. The Moonies aren’t flying planes into buildings. As far as I know, there is no Buddhist extremists actively working to slaughter innocent Westerners. Nor am I aware of a Hindi equivalent to ISIS.
To be sure, there are many smaller groups of lunatics out there who actively pursue violence and terrorism. But, by far, the biggest threat today, and has been for decades now, to commit extreme violence and terrorism comes from the Muslim community; mostly from the mid-east and north Africa. I don’t know the notions of the average Brit, but, for me, I can think of nearly 3000 reasons why people of that particular background should undergo extra scrutiny before being allowed into our lands.
Please don’t get me wrong. I haven’t one thing against Muslims in general. I’ve known several throughout my life and have gotten along well with most of them. I consider them future bothers and sisters in Christ!
And, yes, we are told, over and over again, the people committing these horrid acts of violence are of a minority of Muslims. I believe this to be entirely true. Last I checked, there were about 1.6 billion Muslims in this world, but, a mere estimated 46 million support ISIS. But, that’s about 46 million too many to be allowing random people from the Muslim world into our nations. No other faith in this world has near that amount actively supporting and working towards such horrid acts.
The response of our respective nations is heartbreaking. They care more about form than function and have relegated the obligation to keep the citizenry safe to mere form. We’re not even a mere number to them, anymore. To them, it’s considered good form to utter gibberish at us in modest attempts to reassure us. But, again, other than targeting our own citizens, nothing is done.
