July 4 Scripture Selection: Psalm 55-56

Food for Thought: Ps. 55:6-8

Ever had a time when you just wanted to get away from it all? Sure. Everyone has. Even Jesus (Luke 5:16). But when we get away, we need to be sure that we are running to God for refuge and to gain strength to face the challenges before us. Unfortunately, some people just attempt to run from their problems without any destiny in mind or hope, and end up in bigger ones.

Sometimes getting away is just for a moment. Just stepping aside to gather your thoughts, receive peace and direction from the Holy Spirit, and return revitalized to handle the situation. Other times, getting away requires some hours or days to recharge your batteries and spend time in the Word. Then there are other times when the Lord desires to change our direction entirely and put us on the path He intended with no turning back. The key is to “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths (Prov. 3:6).”

None of these options involve just dropping everything and running away defeated with no purpose. When our live has been given to the Lord, then we can trust Him to direct us in it. Psalm 40:2 explains that when we place our trust in Him to direct our lives, He pulls us out of the horrible pit and miry clay, sets our feet upon a stable rock, and establishes our steps (Ps. 40:2). So when facing any kind of pressure, we know that we can and should run to Him. “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe (Prov. 18:10).”
