July 3 Scripture Selection: Psalm 53-54
Food for Thought: Ps. 54:4
No doubt there will be plenty of times today when we could really use the help of the Lord. Sometimes we are aware of His help, and sometimes He quietly slips in and intervenes on our behalf, and we continue on in our day, oblivious to the catastrophe that was avoided or the assistance received to accomplish a particular task.
Sometimes He sends people in our path to serve as His appointed helpers. They are the ones that offer a hand, or a listening ear, sound counsel, support, or a word from the Lord specifically for a particular situation. We may know them personally, or perhaps not. But they are there, and it is good for us to be aware of those the Lord has sent on our behalf and express our gratitude to Him as well as to them. We need to take the time during our hectic day to notice those who have helped make a difference for us. In addition, there are times when we may actually be the ones serving others. Galatians 3:13 tells us to “through love serve one another.”
Often the Lord commissions His ministering angels to work on our behalf. According to Psalms 91:11, “He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.” We know the angels are on assignment all around us because Hebrews 13:2 admonishes us to “not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels.”
Regardless of how our help comes today, we can be assured that the Lord is behind it all. And because He loves us, we don’t have to be afraid to ask for help in any situation, big or small. What a comfort to know that we have not been left to face this day on our own. The Lord, indeed, has us covered!
