June 30 Scripture Selection: Psalm 47-48
Food for Thought: Ps. 48:4-7
The place where the Lord dwells, His Kingdom and His Church (not the building, but the believers), is full of His glorious light, for He is the very source of light. The Bible says in John 1:4, 5, “In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend (overcome) it.” Darkness vanishes in His presence; nothing can withstand the light of God.
While some are drawn to the Light and are blessed for it as the works of darkness are cast off of them, others do all they can to avoid it because of fear, as in the case of the kings who had assembled and passed by Zion. Others run from it simply because they enjoy the darkness, as John 3:19 points out: “And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.” This explains why so many reject Him and even flee from Him, despite the overwhelming evidence all around of His glory and goodness and the blessings of believing in Him.
There is great advantage to drawing closer and closer to the Light. In His presence there is fullness of joy (Ps. 16:11) because of the absence of the darkness and its effects on us. So instead of fleeing from Him, run to Him and enjoy the abundance of blessings, as King David expressed in Psalm 73:28, “But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord.” Like David, draw near to Him and enjoy His glorious light today.
