June 16 Scripture Selection: Psalm 19-20
Food for Thought: Ps. 19:7-11
The Word of God is such a treasure of immeasurable value! It is life itself (Mat. 4:4; John 1:1-5, 14). There is absolutely nothing in this world that has greater value than the Word of God, and therefore, must always be given our highest esteem.
The Word performs multiple functions as it is given a place in our heart, mind, and spirit. It saves us, changes us, corrects us, cheers us, heals us, edifies us, sustains us, leads us. That is why the apostle Paul encourages us in Colossians 3:16, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” Paul adds in II Timothy 3:16, 17, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” As it dwells in us richly, the Word is working in us and accomplishing that which it was sent to do.
It is sweeter than honey and worth more than gold. Men have given their lives so that we could hold it in our hands and hide it in our hearts. (And there still are those who at great risks work to provide the Word of God across the world.) We have the privilege of having access to it in so many ways. Let us honor the Word always and give it first place in our lives daily as we hear it, talk it, meditate on in and live it (Ps. 77:12). After all, everything else will eventually pass away, but God’s Word will remain forever (Mat. 24:35).
