June 15 Scripture Selection: Psalm 17-18

Food for Thought: Ps. 17:15

David said that as he looked at righteousness, he would see the Lord’s face of which he had an intense yearning to share the likeness. His desire was to awake in God’s image. Then he would be satisfied.

As His children, we should not be surprised that we do bear His likeness. In fact, that is exactly how the Lord made us to appear. When the Lord created man, He did just that. He made man in His own image (Gen. 1:27). But things went awry when man rebelled and brought the curse upon his life. That was the only thing that was different between him and God. However, when Jesus came as a man and made it so that man could be born again and made righteous, we took on His characteristics again within the spirit.

That’s glorious, but the Lord desires to take us even to higher levels of glory, a process which has begun for all who believe in Him. This would have been very encouraging to David had he known the whole picture and plan of the Lord. According to II Corinthians 3:18, the Lord has made a way to fulfill in us this desire that David had longed for: “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.”

The more we behold His glory, as in a mirror, the more we are being transformed into His image from glory to glory. It’s a process that will be completed when we see Him face to face. I John 3:1-2 says, “Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! … Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.” Like David, we may not comprehend completely what this all entails and how things will be, but we know one thing: it is glorious!

  1. Thank you. ‘The Lord is my rock’.
Not a little ‘pebble’ in whom some put their trust.
