June 7 Scripture Selection: Psalm 1-2
Food for Thought: Ps. 1:1-3; 2:12d
What a blessing it is to have been rescued out of the grips of the enemy and brought into the light! There are so many benefits available to us that those of the world cannot even imagine. We are, indeed, privileged beyond measure.
Avoiding the darkness and focusing on the Light produces wonderful fruit and stability in our lives like that of a strong, deeply rooted tree because of the Spirit of God within us. The more we consume the Word of God and we become one with it, the more wisdom and spiritual understanding we have, which distinguishes us even more from the darkness of the world and keeps us from its harmful influences. That’s why the apostle Paul prays in Colossians 1:9-13 the following:
9 For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; 12 giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. 13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, 14 in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.
Jesus says in John 8:12, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” Anyone who choses Jesus choses the real Light and is placed in a very privileged position with all the advantages that come with it for both our good and the glory of God. (See I Pet. 2:9.) As the Word promises in Psalm 2:12d, “Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.”
