May 13 Scripture Selection: II Chronicles 29-31

Food for Thought: II Chron. 30:22

Occasionally we see a bumper sticker that says, “If you can read this, thank a teacher.” While school teachers play a very important role in our lives, how much more our teachers of the Word of God? May today be a day for us to take the time to acknowledge and appreciate those who have sown the invaluable seed of the Word of God in our lives and have had a mighty impact on us. Like Hezekiah did, let us give encouragement to all who teach “the good knowledge of the Lord.”

The Lord places teachers of the Word among those of the five-fold ministries (apostles, prophets, pastors, evangelists, and teachers—all reliant on the Holy Spirit to direct them and flow through them), and, therefore they hold a prominent position in the Church (See Eph. 4:11, 12). And much of what they do, if they are flowing in the anointing of a teacher, can be at a great personal cost as they devote much effort, time, and sometimes even their own funds, to making sure the Word is effectively sown in the hearts of the people so that they can know the truth and walk in the freedom of it.

Isaiah 30:20-21 explains the role of teachers this way: “And though the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet your teachers will not be moved into a corner anymore, but your eyes shall see your teachers. Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left.” Teachers of the Word show us the way and explain things to us that perhaps we hadn’t seen before. Sometimes, they just remind us of things we have already learned.

Thank God for the teachers that He has anointed for our benefit! May we rise up, call them blessed, and encourage them today.
