May 8 Scripture Selection: II Chronicles 13-15

Food for Thought: II Chron. 15:1, 2

God is so good! He will not allow the true, sincere “seeker” to remain lost. Just as He promised King Asa, He promises everyone: “If you seek Him, He will be found by you.” Seeking implies the desire to know God, know His will, and follow Him. The people who truly call on the name of the Lord are promised in Romans 10:13 (as well as in other places in the Word), “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Over and over in the Word is the assurance that if you seek the Lord your God, “you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul (Deut. 4:29).” In addition, those who do so are promised that they “shall not lack any good thing (Prov. 34:10),” as a benefit for placing Him as the priority. Another benefit of seeking the Lord is gaining understanding (Prov. 28:5), something people who do not seek Him inherently lack and suffer many painful consequences in their personal lives because of it.

There is much to gain in seeking the Lord and putting Him first in our lives. As Lamentations 3:25 puts it, “The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him.” That’s why the Lord exhorts everyone, both Jew and Gentile (Acts 17:26, 27), to “Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near (Is. 55:6),” and “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you (James 4:8).” The Lord will not force Himself into anyone’s life, but He gladly enters where He is invited. The person who truly seeks Him and takes steps toward Him will walk right into the Truth and find real Life (John 14:6). We have His Word on it. All we have to do is seek Him, get closer to Him, and call on His name. He will do the rest.
