May 6 Scripture Selection: II Chronicles 7-9

Food for Thought: II Chron. 8:11

It is interesting that Solomon knew that it was not right to have a pagan wife, yet he did, anyway. To appease his conscience, he moved her away from the City of David because “the places to which the ark of the Lord has come are holy.” This is how many people compartmentalize their lives. They try to keep the ungodly things at a far distance away from the holy ones, yet they still keep them. That is why some people work very hard to hide the sin in their lives, all the while keeping up their “holy” appearances, ignoring the obvious that God is everywhere and that our identity in Him is not removed when we depart from places pertaining to faith.

What they don’t realize is that everywhere they go, the Spirit of God goes, too, if they have accepted Jesus as Savior. In fact, they are the temple of God, and everywhere they go, the temple goes, as well. I Corinthians 6:15-19 confirms this: “Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? …Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

Our whole life is for glorifying God—not just the part of our life that has to do with church attendance or some other “religious” practice. And when we truly love the Lord and gratefully receive the ultimate sacrifice that He made for us, then He becomes our ultimate priority and our purpose for living. He is our Source of life. When we receive that revelation, then the other things, the ungodly things, simply slough off and lose their grip on us. And we become free from them and free in Him.
