April 27 Scripture Selection: I Chronicles 10-12
Food for Thought: I Chron. 12:32
The Bible says that the children of Issachar were men that had understanding of the times to know what Israel ought to do. That’s the gift of wisdom that can only come from God. And we can have an even greater form of it today. In fact, the Lord desires that we, by His Spirit, function in that gift for the good of the Body of Christ, as well as for our own personal benefit. Jesus affirms this in John 16:13 : “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.”
When we accept Christ, the Holy Spirit enters and becomes one with our spirit, making His wisdom and guidance available to us (John 14:23). Wisdom is the first of the benefits of being in Christ mentioned in I Corinthians 1:30 : “But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption—” With Christ in us, we have the advantage of having the mind of Christ (I Cor. 2:16). It is just a matter of inclining our ear to Him (Ps. 78:1) to allow Him to direct us, instead of us plowing ahead, relying on our own natural understanding which sometimes does not work out too well for us (Prov. 3:6).
God does not want us to feel alone, having to fend for ourselves in this world and trying to guess which way is best. All along, since the beginning of humanity, He has sent spokesmen to help lead the people. While He still does, He also desires to have that direct communication with each one of us to show us what we ought to do for every situation, just like He did with the children of Issachar.
