April 26 Scripture Selection: I Chronicles 7-9

Food for Thought: I Chron. 7:2, 7, 8, 11, 24, 40; 8:40

Having “mighty men of valor” among the ranks was, and still is, important to God. (Ladies, as we all know, in the Kingdom of God, there is neither male nor female (Gal. 3:28), so we can include ourselves among the mighty men of valor.) Complacent, indifferent, or fearful people don’t see many victories, but believers full of faith sure do.

Looking ahead in I Chronicles 12, there is a description of David’s mighty men of valor. One of their attributes were that they could use either hand to shoot or hurl a stone (vs. 1, 2). They were not limited to one hand, which was particularly helpful in the case of an injury. Today, we, too, are effective, regardless of the hand we use. We don’t just walk away and give up when offended or hurt. We don’t give up; we just switch hands and keep on going. The men were also apt with different weapons (vs. 8). The Lord may have us doing one thing quite expertly, and then equip us with yet another skill to push back the darkness for the expansion of His Kingdom. Mighty men of valor adjust easily according to the situation at hand and remain strong in faith. Notice also that their “faces were like the faces of lions.” They showed no fear or intimidation in the face of danger. They were bold. Proverbs 28:1 says, “The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion.” We need bold people in the Kingdom who will function in the position that God has called them! And they were swift as gazelles, agile on their feet and quick to move. It didn’t take them hours, or months, or years to move and follow the commands of their leader. God’s mighty men of valor are quick to react to the promptings of the Holy Spirit.

David’s mighty men of valor were great in number and might like the army of God (vs. 22). They were like all of the believers in the Body of Christ today who stand in faith, bearing and using the armor of God (Eph. 6:10-18) effectively for the Kingdom. As we take our place and function in the authority over Satan that the Lord has already won for us (Col. 2:15), we, too are counted among the Lord’s mighty men of valor. (“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us (Rom. 8:37).”)
