April 5 Scripture Selection: II Samuel 16-18

Food for Thought: II Sam. 16:1, 2; 17:27-29

God’s goodness can be seen on our behalf even in the toughest of times, though sometimes in our despair in the situation, we may not notice or fully grasp how faithful the Lord has been. But if we pay attention, we can see how the Lord has provided for every kind of need. Just as for David, every time we face difficult challenges, the Lord makes sure that we are sustained and supported.

David didn’t have to go it alone when he was forced to flee from Jerusalem. Along with his family and servants, hundreds of people sided with him. While it may not seem like we have hundreds on our side, God with us is more than enough. What’s more, we can be assured that there are hosts of angels that have charge over us to keep us in all our ways (Ps. 91:11). And not only that, we can count on the support of our brothers and sisters in Christ, the Body of Christ, to stand with us (Gal. 6:2) if we make the need known to them. Often times, the Lord will even make sure that a particular person is sent to walk along side us during a situation for the sole purpose of ministering to our needs.

Like the items delivered by Ziba and Shobi, some of the things provided are very practical for natural needs. Others are spiritual and emotional. Regardless of the type of necessity, help is on the way because the Lord already knows the things we have need of before we ask Him (Mat. 6:8), and He said He would never leave us nor forsake us (Heb. 13:5).

Our part in all this is to trust the Lord and cast our burdens on Him. Psalm 55:22 says, “Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.” And as we rely on Him, He promises to give us peace and guard our heart and mind through Christ Jesus (Phil. 4:7). He will provide what we need, and we will get through it!
