Liars And Figures —- Debt, Deficit, And More Lies!!!

I think the left is on to something in as how to get away with lying.  That is, they just compound the lies until people tire of keeping up with the lies.

President Zero, during his SOTU address claimed his administration has actually cut the deficit.

“Since I took office, we’ve cut our deficits by about two-thirds.” —President Obama: http://youtu.be/bupE4OonRlk

Uhmm, yeh, but, no.

As pointed out in this Washington Times editorial, all isn’t as they would have us believe:

The deficit has indeed declined, but from the $1.4 trillion peak achieved in Mr. Obama’s stimulus-fueled first year in office. He can hardly celebrate cutting in half what he first tripled.

Well, he does celebrate it, mostly because he’s a lying moron and expect everyone else to be as stupid as he is.  But, team Zero isn’t done with their deception.  They gave us this useless graphic…..

Is that true?  Is our deficit under 3% of our GDP?

The original, you can see here.  The author used this as his source….Source: Whitehouse.gov – Historical Tables (Table 1.1)

But, if you look at the last 2 years, you’ll see a problem.  Well, you will if you bother to note the actual US federal debt from time to time.

Here’s what our debt has been through the last few years….

Date Dollar Amount
9/30/2000 5,674,178,209,886.86
9/30/2001 5,807,463,412,200.06

9/30/2014 17,824,071,380,733.80

This is from Treasurydirect.gov

Now, mind you, the numbers never do exactly add up.  But, look at our debt growth (deficit) for from 09/13 to 09/14.  Our debt grew by nearly $1.1 trillion!  That’s more than double the reported amount of our defict!!!

Lying liars lying.

It’s all BS!!!

Update!!!  Because of the numbers I’ve thrown at the readers, I thought I’d post an explanation as to why the numbers don’t add up.  First, here’s a graphic.

Now, here’s an explanation from Wiki … yeh, I know, but, I believe this part is mostly correct, but, some other parts of it is  …. wel you can read for yourself.

Calculating the annual change in debt

Comparison of deficits to change in debt in 2008

The annual change in debt is not equal to the “total deficit.” Social Security payroll taxes and benefit payments, along with the net balance of the U.S. Postal Service, are considered “off-budget”, while most other expenditure and receipt categories are considered “on-budget.” The total federal deficit is the sum of the on-budget deficit (or surplus) and the off-budget deficit (or surplus). Since FY1960, the federal government has run on-budget deficits except for FY1999 and FY2000, and total federal deficits except in FY1969 and FY1998–FY2001.[25]

In large part because of Social Security surpluses, the total deficit is smaller than the on-budget deficit. The surplus of Social Security payroll taxes over benefit payments is spent by the government for other purposes. However, the government credits the Social Security Trust fund for the surplus amount, adding to the “intragovernmental debt.” The total federal debt is divided into “intragovernmental debt” and “debt held by the public.” In other words, spending the “off budget” Social Security surplus adds to the total national debt (by increasing the intragovernmental debt) while the surplus reduces the “total” deficit reported in the media.

Certain spending called “supplemental appropriations” is outside the budget process entirely but adds to the national debt. Funding for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars was accounted for this way prior to the Obama administration. Certain stimulus measures and earmarks are also outside the budget process.

For example, in FY2008 an off-budget surplus of $183 billion reduced the on-budget deficit of $642 billion, resulting in a total federal deficit of $459 billion. Media often reported the latter figure. The national debt increased by $1,017 billion between the end of FY2007 and the end of FY2008.[26] The federal government publishes the total debt owed (public and intragovernmental holdings) at the end of each fiscal year[27] and since FY1957 the amount of debt held by the federal government has increased each year.

In other words, team Zero is playing a shell game with our money.  Still spending the SS surplus ….. as they all have, but, moving their expenditures off budget, and then claiming they’re reducing the deficit.

It’s a nice game. Governments have discovered the sport of lying, and peons have discovered the sport of seeing through the lies.

In other news, I found a great growing market: Tattoo concealer.

I know people who could use bathtubs full of them.

Lying is easy when millions base their view of reality on lies.

If we had a society based on consensual interactions and honesty (and I would point out that “honesty” is also a simple way of saying “abiding by our word and our contracts”) we would not be surprised if people led peaceful lives and became more prosperous as time went by.

Somehow we have placed our lives under the control of a government based on coercion (do what we say or we will throw you in prison) and lies. Is it any wonder that our society is becoming poorer and more restrictive? As a nation, we have thrown out the old-fashioned concepts of ethics and morality and now we find our lives becoming hellish. What else should we expect from a society based on lies and aggression? If you run a country based on the rules of Hell, that is what you get.

    25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;

26 Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

Obama has cooked every number coming out of the government since he took office. Gruberites believe him. real people living in the real world know it is horse pucky.

    • Jason Calley says:

Hey philjourdan! I doubt that I really need to point out that Obama is merely the latest number-cooker. It seems to me that governmental spokesmen have always been ready to twist the numbers a little — but the Bushes and Clintons really put it into high gear and Obama has crossed the line into pure fantasy. What I find of concern is not that both Republicans and Democrats lie; everyone seems to know that. What is scarey is that the mainstream media broadcast their obvious lies and pretend that even the crazy numbers make sense — and a lot of people believe them!

I have a brother who should have been a character in the book 1984. He believes that both parties lie, but he still believes what they say once it is reported in the news. He cannot believe that the new will lie also. Somehow he holds in his head the certainty that politicians lie, but still believes the politicians told the truth because the news repeated the same statements. He sees no contradiction in his thoughts.

      Yes, he is a Progressive.
