November 30 Scripture Selection: II Peter 2

Food for Thought: II Pet. 2:7-9

There are godly people reading this today who are surrounded “by the filthy conduct of the wicked” and are tormented by having to see and hear “all those lawless deeds (vs. 7, 8).” The conditions in which they live and work are deplorable. Today’s word is for them:

The Lord knows your situation, and, as verse 9 says, “the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations.” Temptations are not just situations that compel to sin; rather, they are also those which cause oppression in the soul. Regardless of whether He removes you from the situation or simply protects you while you are there, rest assured, He is there with you, and you are safe. In the midst of the vile, you can be in perfect peace.

This is confirmed in Psalm 18:2 which says, “The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”

In John 14:27, Jesus assures His followers, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” Another excellent source of encouragement can be found in the entire Psalm 17.

Just as Lot was taken away from the ungodliness and preserved from the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Jesus promises in John 14:1-4 to do the same for all of us eventually: “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know.” Your current situation is only temporary.

All you need to do is persevere, eyes fixed on Jesus, the Author and Finisher of your faith (Heb. 12:2). In so doing, you have God’s Word in Isaiah 26:3 that He will keep you in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Him, because you trust in Him.

  1. DirkH says:

Turkish Sunni prodigy from the area of the seven churches converts to Christianity – after seeking answers in Western philosophy and Islam in vain. Reports about his story, but also about growth of Christianity in Turkey, from one Christian in 1960 to 4000 (evangelicals) now; and a case of 4 Christian martyrs in 2007 (starting at 33:00). The martyrs were asked to recant Christianity by speaking a Muslim prayer and refused and were stabbed to death. After hearing of this more Turks converted to Christianity.
