September 10 Scripture Selection: John 12:20-36

Food for Thought: John 12:20-26

There are three points that spring up from today’s Food for Thought. First, one way that the Lord is glorified is when much fruit is produced through His death and life.

Second, and similar to the first, is that Jesus showed His love for all nations as revealed in His response to the Greeks’ request to see Him. Though Jesus began His ministry focused on the Jews, by this time He expanded it to “anyone.” Because He desired much more fruit than limiting it to the Jews, He didn’t reject the Greeks, though He could have. Instead, He spelled out what they needed to do: give up their way of living for real life in Him, serving and following Him. The offer was and is available to anyone and everyone: “If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.” Jesus was making it clear to His disciples that there was a place in His Kingdom for anyone who would believe on Him. That is how He intended to bring forth much fruit.

And third, interestingly, He compared Himself to a grain of wheat that, when it falls to the ground and dies, produces much more wheat. Notice that one grain looks just like the others! The grain that was planted produces an entire plant that produces thirty, sixty, or even one hundred fold more, and they all look the same. In the spirit, because we have the nature of God in us, we look just like the original Seed that fell to the ground, died, and brought forth much fruit. When God sees us, He sees Jesus, and He also sees the potential for much more harvest.

This is all great news! Anyone came come to Jesus, and He will not reject him, no matter what his background may be. And those of us who receive Jesus look like Him in the spirit because we are born again. The Father will never reject that which contains the image of His Son, and the enemy will always fear that fruit because it looks just like Him. That great harvest really glorifies God.

Everybody please add Zoltan Istvan to your list of Malthusian eugenicist ethicist philosophers, thanks.

“In an article for Wired.com today, philosopher Zoltan Istvan wrote that the notion first crossed his mind when he heard a blonde nurse say, “with 10,000 kids dying everyday around the world from starvation, you’d think we’d put birth control in the water.”
After careful thought, in an effort to “give hundreds of millions of future kids a better life, I cautiously endorse the idea of licensing parents,” Istvan wrote today”

(There are BTW no 10,000 kids dying everyday from starvation. Those that die die from malnutrition. If they were starving, somebody would film it and we would instantly shower them with helicopter dropped rations.)
