June 28 Scripture Selection: Luke 9:28-48
Food for Thought: Luke 9:29
Sometimes it’s helpful to focus on the glorious description of the Lord Jesus Christ. It put things into perspective and goes far beyond the imaginations of the artists who have tried to capture His image on canvass and can lead us to a higher level of worship.
“As He prayed, the appearance of His face was altered, and His robe became white and glistening (vs. 29).” This coincides with the description of Jesus found in Revelation 1:13-16: “and in the midst of the seven lamp stands One like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band. His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes like a flame of fire; His feet were like fine brass, as if refined in a furnace, and His voice as the sound of many waters; He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength.”
Revelation 4:3 speaks of the Lord sitting on His throne and describes Him like “a jasper and sardius stone in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald.”
Often, as I pray, my mind’s eye takes me past the crystal sea (Rev. 4:6), straight before the Lord and His glorious, magnificent throne. What a privilege and an honor it is that the Lord would make a way for us to be heard before His throne! We not only have the ability to go before Him, He desires that we do so constantly. Nothing on earth can compare to it or to Him.
