Typically, I don’t follow babblings of Miss America contests, nor the commentators on such trifle . But, this is worth noting. Apparently, feminists don’t believe women should task themselves with defending themselves. I’m woman, hear me roar …. or, not.
‘We shouldn’t teach women self-defense so they can avoid being raped, rather we should only teach men it is bad to rape.’
That’s the logic coming from leftist feminists in response to Miss Nevada Nia Sanchez, now Miss USA, suggesting last night that women should learn self-defense in order to prevent or avoid being sexually assaulted. Sanchez is a fourth degree black belt in taekwondo.
First, Miss Nevada’s suggestion during Miss USA last night and after she won the title:
“I believe that some colleges may potentially be afraid of having a bad reputation and that would be a reason it could be swept under the rug, because they don’t want that to come out into the public,”Nia Sanchez said. “But I think more awareness is very important so women can learn how to protect themselves. Myself, as a fourth-degree black belt, I learned from a young age that you need to be confident and be able to defend yourself. And I think that’s something that we should start to really implement for a lot of women.”
Second, the reaction:
Miss Nevada might be gorgeous, but needs to realize teaching self defense to women isn’t the solution for ending sexual assault#YesAllWomen

Miss Iowa says today’s youth are narcissistic followed by Miss Nevada who wants to end rape with self defense classes Really? Sick #MissUSA
I get that the college sexual assault problem can’t be solved in 30 secs but still icky to pretend like self defense is the answer. #MissUSA
Got that? Self defense is icky. That came from Elisa Benson, who is the community manager at one of the world’s largest women’s magazines, Cosmopolitan.
Here’s a suggestion: Let’s keep teaching everyone that rape is barbaric while also teaching women about self-defense should they find themselves in a bad situation. We can and should do both.
Modern feminism can’t survive without victims so naturally, preventing victimhood through self-defense is unacceptable. Telling women they don’t need self-defense to prevent rape is exactly what moves “rape-culture” forward.
To the last Tweet quoted, Dana Loesch responds …
So wait — now it’s “unfeminist” to defend yourself if attacked? Jesus take the wheel. #missusa
Yes. Jesus, please come and take the wheel. Ours have fallen off the rails.
Many Tweets were similar to this one …..
Not happy w/ Miss Nevada’s answer that to stop rape we should teach women to defend themselves…Why don’t we teach men to not rape?—
Kelsey Bemus (@KelseyBemus) June 09, 2014
Well, Kelsey, we actually do teach men not to rape. Oddly, for a very few percentage of men, that teaching doesn’t take. I know!!! It’s weird!!! But, as it turns out, some people are just people who are not very nice! In fact, some men, (and some women) are sadistic, malevolent creatures intent on doing harm to other people. I don’t know why. Some people, even though they were taught differently, choose to do wrong, anyway. This is why we must be able to protect ourselves.
While self-defense classes would be useful in some cases, they won’t help in all. I would suggest a firearm. Firearms equalize size/speed/strength disadvantages.
Some people do wrong, in spite of being raised not to do so.
Yes, Jesus, take the wheel. When people don’t understand there is evil, in spite of education, God needs to call us home. Perhaps there is a purgatory. It’s called “here and now” where insufferable imbeciles are forced upon us.
