June 7 Scripture Selection: Romans 16

Food for Thought: Rom. 16:1-16

This is beautiful! This is a kind of “snap shot” of the co-laborers of Paul’s day. This chapter actually greatly resembles e-mails that we send back and forth to the members of churches we oversee and conversations we have by phone with them. There is a great amount of attention given to greeting people and appreciating the ones who have devoted so much time, effort and even finances to the cause of Christ. And, as found in verse 16, we ask that they greet each other with “a holy kiss” and lots of hugs on our behalf. It’s the closest thing to embracing our brothers and sisters in Christ as we can get when distance separates us.

If you were to write an epistle to a congregation, would you be able to fill in the blanks with the names of modern-day co-laborers in Christ? Have you formed strong bonds with people who have devoted their lives to one another and to the Lord? If not, maybe you need a stronger relationship with the brothers and sisters in Christ who are serving in love in so many ways. Perhaps you just haven’t noticed them. Take the time to identify who they are and let them know you appreciate them. It truly is a beautiful thing.

To be sure, identifying, greeting, and offering salutations to fellow laborers in Christ is important. And, yes, it does greatly resemble some emails I’ve seen. But, I think it is equally important to …

17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.

18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.

Today, we see this not just in the churches, but, outside the churches. We actually have non-believing heathen trying to define what it is to be Christian. We also have people claiming to be believers trying to institute false doctrine. There will be an accounting.

20 And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.

Not only is it important to mark these people for our own sakes and for the body of Christ, but, for the sake of the people spewing false doctrine. They are blind. It is our onus to attempt to help these people see. We must at least try to save their souls from eternal damnation. This is one of our duties and obligations. When someone tells you it is Christian thought to tax people, correct them. When someone tells you that if you were a “good Christian” you’d be advocating the notions behind global warming, you need to correct them.

What this means is that we’re obligated to familiarize ourselves with secular notions such as the ones I mentioned, and many more. We do this for the ones spewing the false doctrine, and the ones who would hear them. Not only do we have to familiarize ourselves with the secular notions, but, we also have to know and understand the teachings in the scriptures and how they relate to what is going on in the world, today.

Too often, I’ve had fellow believers who say it is of this world, and not their concern. But, it is our concern because these people are damning themselves and many, many others. We cannot sit idly by and just watch it happen.

For those who would say this is hard, and the notions complex …… it isn’t. Christ’s yoke is light. You just have to be open to receiving the insights He’s already provided! For instance, a common babbling of the lost is about our minimum wage and income inequality.;KJV

    It’s that easy!

Now, it is true that not all of us are gifted in the same manner. God gives us talents for some, and different talents to others. Some notions, issues, and situations may be complex and confusing to some of us. Many situations I have had to turn to fellow believers for guidance. Some things, I’m simply not adept at. Others, I’m very adept. And, so it is for all of us. This is why it is important to mark and note those strong in the Word as well as those which cause division and offenses contrary to the doctrine in the Word. You have to know who to turn to. ….. who can help ….. and who will lead you astray.

      SO TRUE!

      Recent Example:

      “PASTORAL LETTER” ????????????

Many people wrongly assume that all religious leaders disapprove of abortion. The truth is that abortion is not even mentioned in the Scriptures—Jewish or Christian

      Jeremiah 1:5 ESV

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

      Psalm 139:13-16 ESV
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.

      Exodus 20:13 ESV

      “You shall not murder

      Exodus 23:7 ESV

Keep far from a false charge, and do not kill the innocent and righteous, for I will not acquit the wicked.

Right now, something like this happened in Germany.
Katholische junge Gemeinde (KjG) – “catholic young congregation”, obviously their youth organisation – published a pamphlet endorsing abortion and transgenderism.

        Click to access 785_2_Woche_-_17.3._-_Recht_auf_sexuelle_Selbstbestimmung.pdf

Noticing that their own youngans had fallen for Jesuit propaganda designed to destroy protestant minds, not their own, the German Bishops conference immediately demanded a takedown.

I also like that they write Yourope instead of Europe – reminds me of “gonna hang myself if I get enough rope”…

      • DirkH says:

“I have noticed, that everyone who is for abortion has already been born.”
        Ronald Reagan

        • HankH says:

          +10 😀

        • Me says:

Kinda like the Climate nutters with their “think of the children”, Hyprocracy at it’s finest, anything to tug at the heart strings of those that they figure they can separate peoples money from their wallets.

        • DirkH says:

I don’t quite understand you, Me; if you want to suggest that Reagan was hypocritical in this regard, I strongly disagree.

        • Me says:

Yeah that’s not what I’m suggesting, and again I didn’t think you’d get it after the discussion we had tonight. So you can spin this any way you’d like but since they, leftards, are the ones mostly for abortion and the ones mostly supporting the climate nuttiness but the ones first claiming think of the children what do you expect. That’s my point nothing less and bottom line and nothing more!

        • Me says:

And after looking at the time stamp, this was brewing for a while wasn’t it?
