Now’s A Good Time To Ask ….. Smart Meters! Are They Spying On You?

So, Fox has this, today. …..

Is your home’s energy meter spying on you?

Uhmm….. yes, they are.

Smart meters, even the ones which don’t go inside your home, can tell us when you’re gone, when you wake up, and when you go to sleep.  Today, there are appliances built with the capabilities to “converse” with the meter.  Some can be turned on and off by commands sent through the meter.  And, now, there are more protocols than just Zigbee.

No one ever stops to ask, “just because we can, should we?”  For the better part of a decade, I screamed a railed against this madness while it was happening.  I wasn’t enough.

For those unfamiliar, the article is fair for a novice to such notions.

Much of this came about under the guise of the energy question of the global warming croc.

I’ve gotta run for a bit, but, I’ll be back shortly.

  1. The only I dislike more than wind mills and photo cells is
    ‘smart meters’

“The NSA has better things to do than monitor our A/C use.”

really???….you mean like having bake sales

Yea, apparently they do not. ANd that is why we had the Boston Bombers, Benghazi, etc. They are not spying on our enemies. They are spying on us due to the paranoid regime.

    • suyts says:

That’s the argument of people who simply are too simple to exist in this world, today. It’s too easy to spy on a person. Data collection is automatic. They don’t have to want to, or, preoccupy themselves, they just have to flip a digital switch, and it’s done.

One major application is and always was finding out the Marihuana home growers.

  4. Smart Meters are quite intrusive but they allow us to better monitor our usage. If the theories about radiation are true then they should be avoided at all costs.

      Jeremy, thanks, and welcome.
First, let me say there’s no reason to be concerned about radiation from smart meters, nor EMI. Smart meters basically combine old metering technology with a circuit board not dissimilar to anything else with a circuit board. Yes, they can help monitor usage, but, seriously, how many people will actually utilize this “gain”. Besides, if I wanted to monitor my usages, I’d walk outside and read my meter.
