So, pot smokers all over the nation have descended upon Colorado to legally buy the weed. I’ve only followed this with mild bemusement.
So, as expected there were long lines and shortages in the opening day. But, this is something which caught my eye in a HuffPo article.
Now, I’ve no idea about pricing of the drug, legal or otherwise. Can someone comment on normative prices?
The only problems reported Wednesday, though, were long lines and high prices. Some shops raised prices or reduced purchasing limits as the day went on. One pot shop closed early because of tight supply. Some shoppers complained they were paying three times more than they were used to.
Colorado has no statewide pricing structure, and by midafternoon, one dispensary was charging $70 for one-eighth of an ounce of high-quality pot. Medical marijuana patients just a day earlier paid as little as $25 for the same amount. ……
Shoppers waiting in line Wednesday didn’t seem fazed by the wait, the prices, or the state and local taxes that totaled more than 25 percent.
Again, I’ve no idea what is reasonable. Still, $70 or even $25 seems a bit much for 1/8 of an ounce.
No worries. It will soon be available thru the ACA. You’ll buy it for them. š
I’ve no doubt.
Sounds like a great business opportunity. Nice markup. By comparison, tobacco in ordinary cigs here in Oz costs $1 a gram.
In the 1600’s you had to sail halfway around the world to get a markup like that. Now you just need some good lights and fertilizer.
I predict the authorities are going to rather like the tax take coming from this industry.
What was the price again?
Law of supply and demand. Supply will catch up eventually.
Why are so many people in the pic wearing hoodies?
It is cold in Colorado this time of year.
