Why David Is Banned … Rules For Suyts

This post is for David Appell.  It isn’t that I feel like I owe anyone an explanation, I don’t.  Still, blogs are judged by their reputation.  The reason why I’m writing this post is to explain to other would-be detractors who may wander by and accuse me of censorship.

Technically, David isn’t banned.  But, his comments won’t be posted until he writes that he recognizes the inappropriate behavior he engaged in the other day and expresses that he won’t do it any more.   

I had thought about posting the 100+ comments he posted in a very short time in order to demonstrate his cry for help.  Apparently, his grasp on reality is tenuous. 

Readers here will note that I don’t really have any hard and fast rules for posting comments here.  I view zero tolerance as possessing zero judgment.  Still, there are lines where inappropriateness crosses to intolerable.

I don’t mind the personal attacks.  I rather view them as badges demonstrating success.  And, it demonstrates the emptiness of the arguments against our posits.  I would even tolerate a bit of spamming.  Both of which David regularly engages in. 

Swearing.  In general, I discourage curse words.  Still, I recognize that sometimes, that’s the best expression of the thought.  It most often is not.  Still, rather than banning someone, I typically simply edit the comment eliminating the offending word, doing my best to retain the original thought expressed.  Other times, I’ll let an occasional offense pass. 

Spamming.  There is a limit to my tolerance on simply posting nonsensical comments.  David exceeded that limit the other day.  If, over the course of an hour, you’ve posted nearly 100 comments, you’re doing it wrong.  Especially, if you only get one response to every 10 comments.  I don’t have a “topical” rule, but, they do have to make sense in some manner or another.  

Posting people’s names and addresses.   This will not be tolerated.  In demonstrating his dementia, David attempted to cyber-stalk me.  And, this was the last of several times he posted people’s addresses and phone numbers who happen to share my name, James Sexton.  The implicit threat is noted.  Personally, I don’t worry too much about the threat, because I know most leftards are cowards, and, I always keep one in the chamber.  That said, I’m aware of a recent leftarded tactic, swatting.  So, I won’t be advertising my personal contact information. 

The most unfortunate bit about David’s attempt to pinpoint my exact location and stalk me was that he was posting the wrong information.  In other words, he was subjecting people to his and other leftards’ stupidity, cowardice, and threats to people not engaged in the conversation or connected to this blog in any manner.  That’s the way leftards roll.  They don’t regard other people.  This blog will not be used for those purposes, under any circumstances. 

Attacks on Christianity.  Readers here will note that I’m more than tolerant of idiotic comments directed towards people of faith.  Probably more than I should be, but, in such judgments, I would error on the side of liberty, rather than censorship.  I have no problem with theological discussions or philosophical ones.  If someone wishes to genuinely engage in such discussions, they are more than welcome to do so.  There are many people here who can in a great many different ways.  Still, filling my comment section with blasphemous stupidity will not be tolerated.  If someone wishes to comfort themselves by writing a mantra against the existence of a higher power or against the reality of “right and wrong” over and over again, then I suggest they get their own blog and spew their filth there.  Then they can do that to their heart’s content. 

David can come back out of comment purgatory as soon as he acknowledges his inappropriate behavior, and gives me his word that he’ll not engage in such behavior, here, anymore. 

I take a bit of pride in the open format of this blog.  Again, I don’t have any hard and fast rules.  This is a blog, and in such a format, we’ve all come to expect a certain interaction which most of us would not engage in face to face.  Civility takes a different meaning in online communication to many people.  I’m aware of this, and so I allow a greater latitude to such ends.  Still, I do expect people to act in accordance to the norms of online communication, and civil society in general. 

I pray that David’s mental infirmity pass and that we are once again able to converse.  The next time, in perhaps a more adult manner.  Godspeed, David.
