Why David Is Banned … Rules For Suyts

This post is for David Appell.  It isn’t that I feel like I owe anyone an explanation, I don’t.  Still, blogs are judged by their reputation.  The reason why I’m writing this post is to explain to other would-be detractors who may wander by and accuse me of censorship.

Technically, David isn’t banned.  But, his comments won’t be posted until he writes that he recognizes the inappropriate behavior he engaged in the other day and expresses that he won’t do it any more.

I had thought about posting the 100+ comments he posted in a very short time in order to demonstrate his cry for help.  Apparently, his grasp on reality is tenuous.

Readers here will note that I don’t really have any hard and fast rules for posting comments here.  I view zero tolerance as possessing zero judgment.  Still, there are lines where inappropriateness crosses to intolerable.

I don’t mind the personal attacks.  I rather view them as badges demonstrating success.  And, it demonstrates the emptiness of the arguments against our posits.  I would even tolerate a bit of spamming.  Both of which David regularly engages in.

Swearing.  In general, I discourage curse words.  Still, I recognize that sometimes, that’s the best expression of the thought.  It most often is not.  Still, rather than banning someone, I typically simply edit the comment eliminating the offending word, doing my best to retain the original thought expressed.  Other times, I’ll let an occasional offense pass.

Spamming.  There is a limit to my tolerance on simply posting nonsensical comments.  David exceeded that limit the other day.  If, over the course of an hour, you’ve posted nearly 100 comments, you’re doing it wrong.  Especially, if you only get one response to every 10 comments.  I don’t have a “topical” rule, but, they do have to make sense in some manner or another.

Posting people’s names and addresses.   This will not be tolerated.  In demonstrating his dementia, David attempted to cyber-stalk me.  And, this was the last of several times he posted people’s addresses and phone numbers who happen to share my name, James Sexton.  The implicit threat is noted.  Personally, I don’t worry too much about the threat, because I know most leftards are cowards, and, I always keep one in the chamber.  That said, I’m aware of a recent leftarded tactic, swatting.  So, I won’t be advertising my personal contact information.

The most unfortunate bit about David’s attempt to pinpoint my exact location and stalk me was that he was posting the wrong information.  In other words, he was subjecting people to his and other leftards’ stupidity, cowardice, and threats to people not engaged in the conversation or connected to this blog in any manner.  That’s the way leftards roll.  They don’t regard other people.  This blog will not be used for those purposes, under any circumstances.

Attacks on Christianity.  Readers here will note that I’m more than tolerant of idiotic comments directed towards people of faith.  Probably more than I should be, but, in such judgments, I would error on the side of liberty, rather than censorship.  I have no problem with theological discussions or philosophical ones.  If someone wishes to genuinely engage in such discussions, they are more than welcome to do so.  There are many people here who can in a great many different ways.  Still, filling my comment section with blasphemous stupidity will not be tolerated.  If someone wishes to comfort themselves by writing a mantra against the existence of a higher power or against the reality of “right and wrong” over and over again, then I suggest they get their own blog and spew their filth there.  Then they can do that to their heart’s content.

David can come back out of comment purgatory as soon as he acknowledges his inappropriate behavior, and gives me his word that he’ll not engage in such behavior, here, anymore.

I take a bit of pride in the open format of this blog.  Again, I don’t have any hard and fast rules.  This is a blog, and in such a format, we’ve all come to expect a certain interaction which most of us would not engage in face to face.  Civility takes a different meaning in online communication to many people.  I’m aware of this, and so I allow a greater latitude to such ends.  Still, I do expect people to act in accordance to the norms of online communication, and civil society in general.

I pray that David’s mental infirmity pass and that we are once again able to converse.  The next time, in perhaps a more adult manner.  Godspeed, David.

I believe you have been more than fair and just. At the end of the day, this is your blog, this is your home, we are merely guests, and if a guest cannot abide by the house rules, and if a guest cannot exercise proper respect to other house guests, I believe the offending guest should be banished. My two cents…

I think there are laws about posting people’s personal information on the internet. I am pretty sure you can, and should, press criminal charges on him.

    • Foods That Make Salt Taste Better (aka, Amino Acids in Meteorites) says:

Even if he didn’t get you accurate information there was still intent, and that is criminal itself.

    • suyts says:

I’m waiting to see how they handle Senator Cruz’ stalking lunatics.

      • Foods That Make Salt Taste Better (aka, Amino Acids in Meteorites) says:

Why wait? The law is related to that famous young actress that was killed by a stalker fan after he got her personal information. I don’t think he got it on the internet but the law also applies to the internet.

    • LLAP says:

Back in the spring, Appell got himself banned from Steve Goddard’s site for attempting to post Steve’s I.P. address. Appell is certainly an angry guy. I suspect it stems from bitterness due to growing up dirt poor (he once posted in a comment that he grew up in a house with no bathroom).

    • kim2ooo says:

Well, He [ DA ] has a wordpress account – and HIS TOS states against it, as well.

  5. Foods That Make Salt Taste Better (aka, Amino Acids in Meteorites) says:

This should make happy James, LSU is losing to Ole Miss.

    • suyts says:

      LOL, oddly, it does! 😀

      • Foods That Make Salt Taste Better (aka, Amino Acids in Meteorites) says:

Oregon has two tough tests coming, UCLA, and Stanford. What you think will happen?

        • suyts says:

Hmm, that would be tough for me to answer. This year is a down year for my teams and so I’m not following college ball like I normally would. And, PAC teams are not ones I follow with great intensity to begin with.

That said, I think Oregon will be able to handle both of them.

      • Foods That Make Salt Taste Better (aka, Amino Acids in Meteorites) says:

And can T A&M even spell the word defense?!

        • Foods That Make Salt Taste Better (aka, Amino Acids in Meteorites) says:

There’s going to be a big shuffle in the top 10.

As it stands now it looks like the Nat Champ will be Ala vs O. I can’t say Ohio St would be there in place of Oregon because of strength of schedule. If Oregon falls once it will be Ohio St.

        • suyts says:

Right, as it stands now. However, there’s still some games left to be played. FSU should move up. Texas Tech didn’t win convincingly, but they’re still undefeated. Baylor should move up. Stanford should…. Miami looked even less impressive in their win …..Mizzu should move up.

Things are tightening up to but there’s still a huge field of unbeatens out there.

        • Foods That Make Salt Taste Better (aka, Amino Acids in Meteorites) says:

Losing to Utah takes Stanford out of the picture, even if they beat Oregon.

Fl St. may leap frog Ohio St in the standing because of how bad they beat #3 Clemson.

Alabama still has to beat LSU and Auburn.

Fl St still has to beat Miami, and vice-versa.

Ohio St has a cupcake schedule—which is going to hurt them. I’m originally from Michigan. I’ve had enough with the head coach, not only in how weak the team is but with the change of uniform Michigan has. That crap belongs on the East Coast. He will get destroyed by Urban Meyer at the end of the season. Enough, this is his last year! Well, I hope.

I think even if Baylor goes undefeated it won’t be enough because their schedule isn’t strong enough

Mizzou could be the dark horse, but their defense could trip them up

What the heck happened to Georgia?????

And, finally, it looks like Alabama and Oregon have control of their National championship future

Talking about this sure is better than global warming political hacks!

        • Foods That Make Salt Taste Better (aka, Amino Acids in Meteorites) says:

          opps

        • suyts says:

Well, yeh, Oregon and ‘Bama can run out their schedule and they’ll be in. Still quite a feat.

        • Foods That Make Salt Taste Better (aka, Amino Acids in Meteorites) says:

It would be interesting if both lose and we get Fl St or Miami vs Mizzou. 😉

        • suyts says:

          Entirely possible!

        • cdquarles says:

Alabama has to beat Tennessee, Mississippi State, LSU, UT Chattanooga, and Auburn. They then have to beat the SEC East team (looking like Missouri at the moment, but we’re talking SEC here). Then they face whomever. Don’t be surprised if Oregon loses. Alabama vs. Big Ten usually is a beating of the Big Ten (though not always).

      • Foods That Make Salt Taste Better (aka, Amino Acids in Meteorites) says:

        LSU lost

        And Clemson is falling hard!

  6. Bruce of Newcastle says:

I am sad that David hasn’t realised that polite discourse is a better advertisement for a political position than rants and ad homs.

The ‘viewing public’ is who is the arbiter is here. Many people read what is written by bloggers and commenters and do not post comments. Being polite and scientific, with links to back up statements is what convinces people of the veracity of an argument, not invective.

    • suyts says:

Well, that’s the problem. There are so many holes in their thoughts it’s impossible to defend. So, they turn to these bizarre forms of discourse.

It is sad, though. We just can’t find rational people to debate with. And, as I stated, I don’t mind some invective, but, I just can’t allow my blog to used for the purposes David was trying to do. Why he thought I might allow that is something only the voices in his head could explain.

    • squid2112 says:

Mr. Appell, sadly, has a psychological disorder. He is desperately reaching for attention. He is also a John Cook wannabe as he views this as a vehicle in which to gain that attention, and by his own delusion, praise. While I despise him and his tact, I actually feel sorry for him. He is obviously in mental trouble and I don’t believe he is getting any proper help and support. I think banishment by James and Stephen are the appropriate measures and will, if only marginally, will actually work to help him. Best thing you can do for an addict is take away the drugs.

“I am sad that David hasn’t realised that polite discourse is a better advertisement for a political position than rants and ad homs.”

He has never understood the simple Realpolitikal reasons for his own movement; namely, channeling billions of Dollars half into the pocket of cronies, half into renewable energy as an energy supply insurance against possible energy blackmail by Russia / Arab states, using the CO2AGW theory as a pseudoscientific hoolywood production pretense.

(Before you say, “but renewable energy CAN’T work due to intermittancy”, look at this:
      http://www.eureferendum.com/blogview.aspx?blogno=84094
      – the British STOR system. Germany plays similar games. Also remember that a huge chunk of the renewable energy system are biofuels which are by definition a storage. The GLOBE agenda.)

  7. copernicus34 says:

i was wondering when the Great Suyts would have enough of apple’s antics. at the beginning i was all for letting him ramble on; but it became clear to me that all he was doing was baiting without any give and take at all. i’m not saddened by this at all. the left is censoring comments now on all their climate blogs (and science blogs as well). eye for an eye, eff em.

    • Scott says:

Gotta disagree with that last part of justification. Appell probably needed banned, but “they are doing it” is not an okay excuse. The open discourse on skeptical blogs is one of their best points. James let David comment here for months of craziness before finally putting a stop to it. Go and make a good skeptical comment at e.g. Tamino’s blog and you’ll be banned without anyone even knowing you exist.

      -Scott

      • Me says:

Yep, because that’s the way they roll!

      • copernicus34 says:

thats fine, disagree if you want. i’m very aware of Tamino and Skeptical Science (that’s a laugh) policies on comments. all i see it tit for tat, on all these sites. if you read into human behavior at all you would be able to gleen the following: the comments section of the skeptic blogs (and the alarmist blogs) are why (in my opinion) many don’t….read on (so to speak). i’ve had people discuss with me in conversation (after mentioned a WUWT article) that all they had to do was read the comments section to know that all it was is a ‘righty site’. some of the comments are good no doubt, even the comments that don’t fall in line with the blog’s emphasis. But from what i’ve been able to gather, the comments section is where people lose it. Now, am on now not for having a comment section? hell no, i love reading comments, but i’ve read so many blog posts over the years that i tend now to gloss over the overly political comments and just move towards the meat and potatoes comments. i mean no disrespect, i just simply don’t have the time. i know from discussions with other that once they see the political snide remarks they move on. some people, sadly, just can’t get past these types of things and end up labeling a blog as political when it clearly is not. Not necessarily talking about Suyts, as its plain as day one of his focuses of the blog is political in nature, to which i say “Open Season”, but just read thru the conversations where James is trying to explain a topic and the marxists apple and douchebag ph just ramble on with their drivel. at some point this harms James blog (and he knows this as I know it probably pained him to ban apple. it serves nobody to carry on like that. trolls need to be dealt with severely. there is absolutely nothing James could have said to change the direction of that conversation (if you could call it that).

    • suyts says:

Well, right. I would like for an alarmist or two to come by and discuss things. It’s how we sharpen our arguments. But, I just couldn’t find a way for DA to actually engage. And, he devolved into some bizarre ranting and weirdness.

  8. HankH says:

James, I think you’ve been more than fair, accommodating, and have tried to lead DA towards a pathway of reasonable discourse. It seems the more you tried to bring him back to rational the more irrational he got.

When he started posting people’s address and making false association, he not only crossed the line of civility, he engaged in criminal behavior. What if some lunatic believed the false association and false accusations he made, went to the wrong address he posted, and caused personal or material harm to that innocent person?

You did the right thing to cut him off before he caused injury.

  9. copernicus34 says:

to be honest, you could see a change in apple awhile ago. at first he was combative, but as he turned personal this took a bizarre twist. i found myself yelling at James (silently) to cease and desist with this idiot because it was clear to me that James was trying to answer queries but apple was just trolling. i’m with Suyts, let people have their say, but what was on display recently is just plain scary. i don’t have any words to describe apple (and his cohort douchebag ph), but if i had to guess they tie in exactly to what James describes in many of his posts. that is those on the left who don’t get their way turn to very strange ways of behavior (to include random weirdness, and others) to try and get their point across. they are clearly a people used to getting their way, when they don’t….watch out. in my house we call those type of people children.

  10. Jim Masterson says:

It’s very rare for a blog host to explain a banning. Usually an individual’s comments disappear, and you don’t know if they just stopped commenting or were banned.

I agree with others here that Appell exceeded the limit. I also thought that he should have been banned sooner, but James seemed to enjoy engaging with him. Anyway, I enjoy reading this blog and appreciate the privilege of commenting here.

Appell and pH are drive-by commenters (to paraphrase Rush Limbaugh) and spammers. They rarely engage with anyone except to accuse them of various absurdities like denialism and religiosity. If they are losing an argument, then they segue to completely different topics. It’s like trying to play whack-a-mole with unrelated subjects.

I think pH is the only one here that doesn’t know I’m an evolutionist. My very first comment on this blog was about evolution (https://suyts.wordpress.com/2012/05/27/id-logical-fallacies-divisiveness-and-poetic-license/#comment-11513).

Thanks for the invite James and letting me annoy you and others from time to time. It gives me emotional security (to quote Captain Kirk).

    Jim

    • suyts says:

My pleasure Jim. Thanks for the trip down a memory lane. It’s a fascinating thing people like Ph, and DA do. They simply lump every thing and everyone into the same pot. I guess such complexities are beyond them. They see us all as the same. If we’re skeptics, we are then, in their eyes, also Tea party, crazed flat-earth, anti-science, literal translationist Christians, extreme right-wing people. And so, to counter the arguments of skeptics, they attack supply side economics, or bring up the age of the earth to rebut advocating a smaller government. And, of course, that applies to all people here.

It’s bizarre, but, that’s the way they roll. It’s funny, while I would probably most fit their stereotyping prejudice, in the typical economic or skeptic blogs, I’ve found myself to visit and participate, I’d say that I’m in the minority most of the time. Even in this blog, I find people with diverse thoughts and ideas. Even the skepticism isn’t uniform. The economics isn’t uniform. Nor is the possession of faith.

I guess they don’t understand that we don’t demand conformity to everything like the left does. But, how boring would that be if we all thought alike?

      • Me says:

Exactly, I guess now, for me, I don’t like anyone telling me to be like their PC version of life as they see it. Common sense prevails, and when they don’t follow it then they can get it back.

        • Me says:

And to add to that, that is why they were censoring us skeptics of AGW, they thought they had control, I guess they were wrong.

      • suyts says:

Yeh, it’s pretty funny. Back when, the lunatics thought they owned the internets. Boy, were they wrong. We’re crushing them. On all sides.

      • David A says:

Yes, it is like the CAGW debate, their only tool is CO2. So dozens of competing factors which are not CO2 get debated and considered by skeptics, giving an endless list of strawmen for the CAGW proponents to attack ALL skeptics with. It is to the advantage of their prejudice, to throw everyone in the same boat.

    • Jim Masterson says:

      >>
      . . . absurdities like . . . religiosity.
      <<

It’s a poorly worded phrase. I was actually thinking along the lines of: “absurdities like denialism and too much anti-science religiosity.”

I also like the way pH labels all of us as unscientific dolts, but never discusses any science.

      Jim

      • kim2ooo says:

Yeppers! He may throw out a link, from time to time – but more than not, they don’t support what he’s attempting to debate.

      • suyts says:

I believe this is an especially intimidating group of people. I’m not surprised that he wouldn’t want to play. We have some very well informed and very capable people here. Nearly all of us commenters are battle tested veterans of the climate wars. Many of us have strong math backgrounds. So, no one is going to be able to get anything past this group.

        • Me says:

Ya should throw that Climate Gate thing at them more, they pretend it was investigated but white washed was the thing. Ya know, they have everything under their control, and a certain someone was really sweating until they did the magic that they did and then it was full steam ahead again.

        • suyts says:

Yeh, I might revisit that a time or two just to remind people of the dishonesty of the lunatics.

This is weird. The blog is busier now than what it was all day. I’m too tired to see straight, now. 😀

Much to the angst of the scarecrow and DA, we share many things in common. But we are not of one mind as we have had many disagreements. But then we are intelligent enough to know how to disagree on the facts and do so in a civil and honest way. Liberals are incapable of that because they never learned that the world does not revolve around themselves.

At some point in my life, I might be intimidated – but it will be by a much better class, then them.

    • suyts says:

Well, that’s the other thing. We’re not intimidated by any supposed appeals to authority. As far as I’m concerned, authority was relinquished to skeptics.

There are many examples in history for this to happen. The splintering and infighting of SPD and communists during the Weimar republic.

In the Spanish civil war, bolshevists from Russia came to “help” the Spanish “anarchists” fighting in the civil war against Franco. Over time, they killed the anarchist fighters one by one, shooting them in the back of the head when unobserved, and after a while the soviet fighters ran the revolution – because there were no spanish fighters left.

Leftards operate with deception where useful; so they have no qualms at all deceiving each other.

Willis, Julienne, and a lot of others are famous for this….

  14. Lars P. says:

I appreciate your openness James, it is good to let others tell their point of view.

As others have said, being polite and scientific is the best way to bring arguments when reviewing scientific hypothesis, however as mentioned above, they have lost the scientific argument and they know it.

This is why some stopped crying wolf and “converted” to luke-warmist awaiting the future temp measurements, and some got desperate as they supported CAGW not for the science but for it supported their worldview. It was their replacement-religion, their belief. And now we attack “the science”, their scripture and show where the errors are!

I guess this is the explanation of the irrational behaviour.

    • Lars P. says:

P.S.. However I do not try to excuse it. There are limits that one wants to have in his house, and these limits are there to keep the conversation at sane levels and some people do not want to learn this…

      • DirkH says:

” It was their replacement-religion, their belief.”

As I said above; the little followers use it as their religion but have not understood that they have been fooled. The makers of the CO2AGW pseudoscience use it deliberately for their purposes. Maybe the little followers slowly understand that they’ve been had; and the result is the 5 stages of death – David Appell currently being in the “Anger” stage.
