Senate Rejects Conference Committee Negotiation With House!

From HuffPo ….

WASHINGTON — House Republicans gave up trying to keep the government open as the clock ticked to midnight Monday, opting instead to try to appoint a “conference committee” to come up with a funding measure.

Democrats immediately rejected the move.

“We will not go to conference with a gun to our head,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said. He said Tuesday would “be a bad day for government,” but a “day of celebration” for the tea party.”

The House move meant abandoning the back-and-forth that gripped the House and Senate all day as the GOP-led lower chamber insisted on offering government funding bills that chipped away at the Affordable Care Act.

The Senate voted down the last bid shortly before 10 p.m., leaving the House the option of passing a “clean” six-week funding bill just in time to stave off a shutdown.

House GOP leaders decided not to, and shifted tactics, announcing they would take a slower legislative route. Conference committees are appointed when the House and Senate pass different versions of the same legislation, and they do not generally move quickly.

But Republicans insisted they were taking the responsible step, even though it meant grinding all government functions that are deemed non-essential to a halt, such as running parks, issuing visas, and clearing potential gun purchasers, among many other government jobs.

Well, we have one more sing-along for the night!  It looks like we’ll have to belay more studies of transgender Brazilian smokers and what not.  I’m wondering if tracking our text messages would be considered “essential”?

Well, let’s ask the Stones about all of this …….

In other important news, my Dolphins are getting their behinds handed to them.  Sad smile  Well, sing it to me to Mick!

“We will not go to conference with a gun to our head,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said, “while our gun is pointed at their head”.

I hate it when they forget to include the whole quote.

I may be taking slight liberties, since I’m not sure whether Mr Reid said this aloud or only thought it.

Obama to GOP on debt ceiling: Here is my offer, nothing

    Reid is channeling Michael Corleone.

Oh, woops, look at that, the date is from last year. Wow, Democrats are so good at negotiations they make the same offer twice! Is that sheer brilliance, lack of imagination or that they just watch the same movie over and over again?

It’s all the Republican’s fault says the BBC

The US government has begun a partial shutdown after the Republican-led House of Representatives refused to approve a budget for next year.

That’s the way the statist media roles. They’ll just lie when they feel the need.

With Mark, up-the-Dems-sphincter, Mardell reporting this, it is not a surprise. His glowing reports on Obama, and his administration, are nothing but sycophantic hero-worship.

    • Bruce says:

Quick off the mark and factually incorrect as only the BBC can always be.

Spending legislation originates in the House, and the House passed legislation to fund the government, legislation which the Democrat-led Senate rejected.

17 years of no global warming and 17 years of no shutdowns…

I am sure the CAGW industry are just peachy about this shutdown given it is guaranteed to deep six the IPCC report forever. No one is going to hear or care about their screeching while DC is having a collective wahhh tantrum.

Reid is using the Obama method of negotiation. Until the Tea Party blows up some buildings, Obama will not negotiate with them.

But Boehner has out maneuvered Reid. if Boehner follows through, appoints the committee, and has them meet every day (if just for a cup of coffee), he can rightly proclaim he is trying to negotiate a settlement, but the democrats are not. That will not play to the MSM or the democrats, but it may just play to enough of the independents.

    • Bruce says:

Exactly. Send a press release out twice a day to MSM and to all the blogs. Someone will report it even if the MSM are drooling lefty zombies. Meanwhile Dem voting guv’mint workers are getting those IOU’s and twiddling thumbs wondering whether they can make next mortgage payment. After a couple weeks of no compromise and it starts to look bad for the guys who won’t come to the table.

Do it right and the Dems will start to hurt bad because they haven’t moved an inch.
